So I bought a Asus Ati 4830 512mb but I have a small problem - I can't control the fan speeds despite trying several tricks.
Tried both Catalyst 8.12 and 8.11 - 8.12 works otherwise well but there's no fan control and the .xml editing trick doesn't affect the fan at all (changed the value from auto to manual in xml profile and tried all sorts of values for the fan - no change). 8.11 didn't work at all, it installed cleanly but there's no ATI control panel anywhere (system tray, start menu etc).
Asus own driver (ASUS modified CCC) - again, no help. No slider seen, above .xml doesn't work.
Tried Rivatuner (latest version), tried both fixed setting and the autosetting (with modified values), the fan speed is still the same (I can't hear any changes in noise).
Tried ATI expertool, yep you guessed it, nothing seems to change the fan speed.
I've also tried ASUS Smart Doctor but it doesn't even show me the fan RPM's, let alone allow to change them (all the options in the fan tab are greyed out, there are options for manual setting via slider, Smart Cooling setting with temp ranges and an auto setting). I can't choose any of those.
really frustrating, my temps are fine (45-50 idle, 70+ load) but the fan is making a noise that is best described as a rabid hyena making sweet loving to a full revving jet engine (well not quite but it's kinda annoying and I can handle higher temps if I could get the fan to quiet down).
I'm not sure if this is related to the same issue but when I do the autotune in CCC, it gives me 690/1180 ratings for the GPU and MEM but at the bottom of the CCC overdrive screen the current values stay at default (stock) speeds. Should that happen (yes, I've clicked 'apply' etc).
Is this a driver issue or a "feature" in 8430? Is there some other tweak I can try? I haven't gone to BIOS yet (don't know how to access the ASUS bios if it's even possible).
The card works flawlessy otherwise.
EDIT: system specs: Asus ATI EA8430 512mb, Abit F-190HD, Intel 4300@1.8 (i.e not overclocked). 4GB, Vista Ultimate 64bit.
