hey guys I am stumped here. I was just doing some cable management on my main rig in sig. Cleaning up sloppy wires with cable ties. I decided to swap my ram out(removed some kingston and dropped in the mushkin but in the opposite channels because the first set of dimm slots is too close to the cpu fan. So i go to retsrat and no post with an error msg of beeping lights on the bask of the gpu. 2 fast and 3 slow. I tried to launch the manual that is on disc that came with it, on my laptop but it wont launch. The asus site is bogged down and the supoport section is unavailable.:confused:

did you make sure that the pci-e power cables are firmly connected to the GPU?

my pc beeps as well when those cables aren't fully secure.
 
yup. It doesnt beep. whats also weird is the light on the mobo isnt lit up all the time like it used to?
 
ok update, I got it to boot. I put the kingston ram back into the first set of dimm slots and it started right up. this seems weird to me. Why would it not post with ram only in the 2nd set of dimm slots?
 
its the motherboards fault not the gpu. most newer motherboards have a certain slot that ram MUST be populated in for it to boot. My board needs to have ram in the 3rd slot otherwise the board wont post and I know some gigabyte boards are that way as well. The lights were lit up because the board was not giving the gpu PIC-E power.
 
It was definitely moving the ram that mucked things up. Motherboards tend to have a prefered memory bank where they first look for their memory. That's just how they are wired.
 
so how would I change it? I would rather have the mushkin in this system but with using the coolermaster hyper 212+ the fan crowds the first dimm slot. I originally had them in the 2nd set of slots so I know that they work. But I later swapped the Kingston in since they are the low profile value so they ticked nicely under the fan. Would I need to clear the cmos and boot with the ram in the new slots?
