System:
ASUS P8Z77V-LK mobo
4gb ram
cheap CPU (celeron?, don't remember off the top of my head)

System is used for litecoin mining, so it's in an open box. I DID have installed 2 powercololr 7950 cards and a 7870. Ran like a champ. However, the 7950s had poor coolers on them and I couldn't push them at all. The 7950s were in slots 1 and 2 using x16 riser cables to get them up into open air, and the 7870 is in the 3rd slot directly.

Got my hands on a pair of ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5-V2 cards (yep, the 3 slot ones). Hooked them up along with the 7870, using the riser cables. Turn machine on, no video signal. Fans are all spinning and I can hear the hard drive ticking, but no video. Tried moving the video cable (DVI) around and found a signal from the 7870. Get into windows and see that there is NOTHING in the device manager about the 280x cards.

Try simplifying things - a single 280x, direct into the mobo. Hook up the dvi and boot. No signal. Nothing. Tried all 3 slots. Put the 7870 in any of them and it's fine.

Any idea why the 280x cards won't appear at all to the computer? Theyv'e got power (it's a 1000W PSU and I've got the power cables all running to the cards, and it ran the 7950s just fine). The fans do spin up on the cards, but that's all.

Having the same issue with a 270x on an Asrock z77 e4m. 5850 ran just fine. Could be that the bios doesn't recognize the card? Good luck.

Mobo is the latest bios (dated just a couple weeks ago). And running win7 64bit.

Think I may have solved it though. I put the 7950s back in and it booted fine (video connected to first 7950). Then I took out the second 7950, replacing it with the 280x. So now it's 7950 w/ video, 280x, 7870. That booted and detected the 280x just fine. Then I tried replacing the first 7950 as well. Finally noticed that there's red/green LEDs on the 280x cards at the power jacks. The second 280x stayed red, where the first one I put in was green. Realized that my psu has 2 8pin connectors and 2 6pin. Guess the 280x cards demand to actually have dual 8 pin connections; they won't be ok with 2 6s or a 6 and an 8.

I do have a 6-8 pin adapter here, but just one. Guess I need to find a second to get the second 280x working.

I SHOULD have thought of that sooner, but my other 280x (in my gaming machine) is an MSI and has a 6 and an 8 pin jack on board, so I didn't think about the ASUS cards demanding dual 8pins.

Had same issue with the two slot version. Sent in for an RMA, seems to be an issue, will let you know when I get a new card.

Mine worked sometimes as the second card but the lights were always green.

I'm getting scared. Some of those recent Newgg reviews for the Asus 280x have made me especially nervous.
