Astro A40s + Mix Amp

I got the Mixamp but use a Turtle Beach HPX headset. Consensus seems to be that the Mixamp is great while the Astro A40 headsets aren't all that great.

It's a good set up. I used it for Modern Warfare 2 (until I folded my CD in half) on my Xbox and it sounded great.
 
Hell no, and definitely not for $330.

If you're spending that much already, as an absolute baseline it MUST kick the ass of Beyer DT-770s. Aside from their general awesomeness, there is a consensus to the effect that they are bloody unfair to use for gaming due to the nearly preternatural ability to hear your foe sneaking up on you that they impart. And to be generous, the A40s probably couldn't take even Koss SB40s on their best day.

AFAIK MMX 300 = modified DT 770s with an attached boom mic. I don't know how they compare beyond that, or how good the mic is, but they should be similar.
