After pre-loading and then installing Assasin's Creed via Steam, I must say, i am very impressed.
I was rather skiddish after the performance debacles I have experienced with other console-pc ported games (Lost Planet, Shadowrun, GoW etc...) that seemed to be terribly inneficient. Especially cosnidering this might be the first game that requires a dual-core cpu.
However, I must say, that despite being newer, Assasin's Creed runs better on my system than GoW. Smoother animation, better detail and lighting even.
If this is what we can expect from truly multithreaded games, then I don'tmind ported games, or higher requirements. The experience has been very good.
My only complaint is that some of the mechanisms of the game are definitely console-based. For example, I don't like having to guess where I will land when I jump off of a building. Nor do I like targeting bad guys. Now luckily that last oneis optional, but I would have liked to pin-point where my landings would be as opposed to guessing or being 'snapped' into diving into some hay.
I find myself just running over the rooftops of Damascus for fun, beating on guards more than I am doing the quests. lol. I haven't like a 'sandbox' type game since GTA:SA.
