Asrock Problem!

I'm using the v1.2 bios and can't bump up the fsb higher than 200, cant even change the setting (it says it can handle up to 300). Also I tried lowering multi and messing with HTT but it won't change the speed from 1.8ghz (3000 venice). Is there a lock feature they put in the bios? Any tutorials or answers will be much appreciated! Thanks
Specs:
A64 3000+ venice
350watt antec smartpower
Asrock sata2 (agp/pcie) v1.2bios
x800 PCI-E
Geil DDR500 2x512mb

Have you changed the overclock mode to manual? Also you can't just hit enter on the htt value, a menu won't appear, you just hit enter and then type in whatever you want it to be. I just went through this same issue with mine.

Also someone posted a link here somewhere for ocworkbench.com go to the asrock forum over there, they have a ton of info. It helped me out a lot (along with Eclipse ;) )

Here's that OCworkbench forum:

You need to set the mode to 'CPU PCIe Async' or something like that for the CPU. Don't remember the exact setting. Make sure you take the CPU<->NB link down to 600 as well. Then just up the FSB. I believe the 'lock' you talking about applies to getting a FSB higher than 274, which is what you'll be restricted to with that bios.

You set the mode to asynch to be able to lock the agp/pci at 100mhz, otherwise it will bump all settings up. And I'm running my CPU-NB at 800mhz with a 215htt

You're right about using async mode. What I wonder is why there is even synch mode? For testing? Old school cards perhaps? I have no idea.

Anyways, the reason I recommend setting the CPU<->NB to 600 is so that if the OP does start oc'ing that the overclock won't set the HT link over 1000 when freqs above 250 are set for the FSB.

good question on the synch setting, I'm sure someone can fill us in on it. Also good point on the cpu-nb setting. I'm still figuring this thing out, what's the gated clock feature for? been out of oc'ing for too long :p

I don't know exactly how gated clock works. Here's what i found at OCworkbench

Not sure about decode scheme, but gated clock function has to do with saving power on clock cycles without wait states. This is a very simplistic explanation. In any event I don't see it as being of much benefit to enable it. IMO it's one of those weird bios settings that shows up for a while on MB bios' then goes away.
So yeah, i haven't seen it impacting anyone's overclocks, so it's probably a good idea to leave it alone. This is my first AMD OC, and i've been pretty impressed so far with what this budget board can do. Good luck with your OC! :D

Wow thanks for all the replies! I did go to async option but I didnt know that you have to type the fsb in, thought it gives a menu like most boards. Not sure why they used such weird bios (F2 to get to bios, low cpu/ram voltage, weird wording :p). I'll give it a try soon! Shouldve posted here in the first place... wasted 2 hours!
