its kinda gimmicky... i search but couldnt find any topics on this yet, has anyone else tried it?
what it does is in software it creates a power profile, then when you shut down, the program actually tells the pc to restart. once restarted back into the desktop, it records the ram to the hdd and shuts down for good automatically. then, once you power the pc back up, the first thing it does is dump to ram and boot, instantly popping up a usable desktop.
the process only takes about 5 seconds once you hit the power button on, but shutdown times increase to a minute and a half now. and its a weird shutdown because it totally reboots first, playing windows sound and all....
pros-
instant startup
clean startup (not a memory-leaking 98-day straight running up time as what basically happens with hibernate and sleep)
fully integrated as power profile, just hit the power button as always and eventually it will turn off
cons-
long ass shutdowns
cannot wake pc via usb as you can in hibernate (cant use a remote to power on pc)
i still use hibernate, it works best since i can use my remote and the pc turns off about as fast as it turns on (pretty much the same speed as my a/v receiver). however, once a week now i can hit "shut down" and have the system ready to start fresh when i go back to it, without making a difference in how the system acts... which is nice. (although i foresee those times when i forget i used instant boot and i plop on the couch before i turn the pc on... then id have to get up and probably never use instant boot again
