Aspire EasyStore H340 - Advice needed

So my brother in law has one of these "Aspire EasyStore H340" and he's not doing anything with it.

I never used a home server before and I don't really know what it could be used for.

I have my movies/audio etc saved on my pc and just stream to my ps3 through LAN. It seems a bit pointless to back everything up on that thing and use that instead.

What else could it be used for?
