ask: Video card "power saving mode"

hi guys,

pls allow me to ask regarding my video card.

here's my situation:

i've been running dual-monitor setup with Pixelview Geforce 210 PCI-e (http://www.pixelview-graphics.com/products.jsp?item=47) video card, and it's run very well.
Mobo : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3501#sp
i5 , on 4 GB RAM .

today, decided to go to triple-monitor setup, grabbed myself the same video card, tested on the store and looked ok. Went back home, apparently, after 5 mins+ the third monitor (connected to the new video card) shows "power saving mode" and then the entire system froze. Already changed the power setting in the control panel, but the issue still persists.
Also, switched monitors (in case the third monitor is faulty), and still the same issue.

I suspect because the first vga card is plugged into pcie x16, while the same second vga card is plugged into pcie x4 .

Would appreciate any input / suggestions on this. :cool:

erm, going to call PSU on this.

i've seen it a couple times before, once was me. the monitor loses signal and the system hangs... a couple times later you have a dead video card on your hands.


yes, my psu was adequate at the time, it was far from overloaded. it just decided it was time to go and fuck me over in the process.
 
Your mobo states that it supports ATI Crossfire technology, but nothing about SLI.
Do you have the two cards connected in SLI or just in the mobo?
I think this is the most likely issue. You might google the mobo name and SLI to see if any experiences are reported.

You said you checked power saving settings on the control panel. Did you check for them in the monitors?
 
thought i'd share with the group on this.

went back to the shop i bought the cards from.
apparently, the second card is 'slightly' different to the first card.
though the boxes look alike, the card size is different, and the chipset is different (forgot what they were :)
i asked for the guy to make the cards to be exactly the same, rebooted the system, fired up lots of apps (.avi .doc .ppt firefox IE .pdf), observed for 20 mins and voila... stable system :)
