The search engine will be implementing a new feature called AskEraser that will allow users to erase their search history on the site.

"AskEraser is a great solution for those looking for an additional level of privacy when they search online," said Jim Lanzone, CEO of Ask.com. "Anonymous user data can be very useful to enhance search products for all users, and we're committed to being open and transparent about how such information is used. But we also understand that there are some who are interested in new tools that will help protect their privacy further, and we will give them that control on Ask.com."

Any of these idiots could implement thier "information" gathering in a manner that instantly FORGETS who exactly the information was generated from.

Ive never understood why they wanted to hold onto the literal ID of individuals. At some point maintaining that information will cost them a mint when BigBrother comes looking for it.

Instead of simply answering... we dont maintain those records... they have to go to the expense of coughing it all up.

Same for ISP's. There is NO reason there should ever be a log of what IP's = What person, and what was done. Dont Record Dont Tell. Random assignment, change the IP assigned on the fly, etc, etc. None of this RIAA crap would be happening, and the ISP's dont get to charge $$ to the RIAA for the subpoena's, so it's all lost $$, and for WHAT?

gathering data about what people are interested in and selling it DOES NOT require the actual tracking of the actual ID's of the actual people involved.

The greed over what MIGHT be gained by direct marketing to the actual ID's pales in comparison to the threats to freedom and privacy of the individual. And it opens up liability to the corporations that the legal dept should never have allowed.
