AS5 on heatpipe?

Would putting AS5 on a 3400+ in a shuttle using the shuttle heatpipe technology affect anything? I know shuttle has their own method for this this new heatpipe technology works and i was curious is you were or were not supposed to use thermal paste?

Anyone have a shuttle using AS5? What kind of results are you getting?

No, the heatpipe heatsink is no different than any other heatsink. They used a heatpipe heatsink due to space in side the shuttle, a normal heatsink wouldn't fit.
 
Also, their heatsink contains a liquid that is designed to absorb heat and then turn into vapor which in turn rides up the "heat pipes". That is why i was wondering if artic silver would interfer with this process.
 
Use compound.

To understand why it's teh same, just differnt, you have to look at the order of transfer for the heat.

Tradtional heatsink:

CPU -> || Heatsink -> air

the || represents the contact area where paste is used. The reason it to increas contact area since even silicone is more heat conductive than air.

heartpipe heatsink:

CPU -> || transfer block -> \ pipes -> \ dissipation block/sink -> air

See that there is still a metal object on the CPU, so paste it.

The \ is to represent where more metal contacts other metal. Compound could be used there, but I don't reccomend someone to jsut go in and replace whatever it is they use for compound. I have fixed a few older dell laptops by replacing hte pipe to sink compound, but that was probably the textbook example of what a poorly designed heatpipe layout was so it was the exception to the rule.
 
all arctic silver does is makes it easier for the heat to travel from the CPU core to whatever heat dispersing apparatus you have above it. I can't see any reason why it wouldnt help, since the heatpipe thing is designed to take the heat, and therefore the arctic silver would help it get the heat.
