AS5 Application methods?

Hey I would like to see what methods you guys use to apply the arctic silver 5 on the CPU. Do you just dab a dot on it and put the heatsink on top or do you spread it out nice and even before you put on the heatsink.
Personally I followed the arctic silver intructions and spread it out, but which do you think works better?

I put about a size of a grain of rice and a half on it in the center, and just let the pressure of the heatsink spread it out.

Of course, I followed the intructions on Artic Silver's website.

Just follow the website. Put a dab in the middle of the IHS then let the heatsink bump and grind all over that ish.

i get best temps spreading it out real thin with a razor blade esp. for bare core chips, i never put a dot for those

, but my standards for heat sink/cpu flatness/smoothness is just a hair from not needing a TIM at all so spreading it as thin as as5 can get with a uber sharp razor blade might not make good contact for most situations

i honestly would sand a cpu core, thats how determined i am, almost sanded the 6800's core but it wasnt neccesary after lapping the maze4

for my a64 i just use a drop about the size of a grain of rice then use saran warp on my finger to spread it out somewhat then use a CC to spread it over a thin layer...not so thin but good enough.

I use a little more then a rice kernal and spread it with a plastic card then smash with HS or waterblock.

Now if you were my friend, you'd use a whole 1g tube of it and have it ooze all over your mobo and blowing up a nearby capaciter.....

I've had one of those come to me. Good thing was they used white paste instead of AS. It was just caked on the CPU. They said it worked for a long time. Very surprising.

i got that on my cpu too, cept i also have neoprene in the middle of the socket and it has dielectric grease all set for better cooling

thats after spending about 10 minutes cleaning the cpu real good (wanted to get all teh copper dust off)

dielectric grease is used just for insulating the cpu and its pins, gonna be getting vapo in a year or two

I have a question to ask. I just ordered a Venice 3500 and XP-90C+panaflo fan and wanted to know if the method on artic silvers site to apply AS5 was as effective as spreading it out thinly with a razerblade. I'm new to A64 chips with their heatspreaders but I'm not new to AS5 application. I'm not sure how effective just putting a dot in the middle will be. Anyone know if there's a difference?
