Been trying to push this thing a little so I don't have to play Doom3 at it's lowest settings, but I'm having some trouble. I'm using 3dmark 2k1 as a stability test and to check my progress, but even at stock speeds I'm getting clipping artifacts. if I overclock (even 4mhz!), it makes it a lot worse. I don't notice it in other games though (openGL runs fine, so does Doom3).

I ended up doing the Vmod, since my card ran pretty low (1.3v core, 2.6v mem), got it set at 1.4v core and 2.9v memory right now, but the artifacts are still there. I also upgraded the cooling from the sorry stock unit and added some ramsinks. I didn't use arctic silver or anything so I know that's not the issue.

Now I know that there's supposedly some visual quality bugs in the 4.7 drivers that ATI is supposed to fix, so I'm hoping that is the problem. I had hoped that it was just because my voltages were so low, but now that they're a little healthier I still have the clipping problems. Do I just have a bum card (and very shitty overclocker), or are the drivers just buggy?

I haven't tried any other DX games yet, so maybe it's just 3dmark..

I think the people at "id" said it the best. "this game might not perform like it does on other games on an overclocked system. It uses parts of the gpu that have never been used before." or something along those lines. so far it looks like they where right.

Even on my stock 9700 pro i have rendering problems. i get artifacts here and there but nothing to serious.

one problem i ran into was this. after about 15 minutes of play i would get the ATI VPU recovery thing and it would boot me out of the game and put me in software render mode. I didnt like this at all. My BFG 6800 ultra is coming tomarrow so im not so worried about it, but i figured id mention it so you are aware of the issue at hand.
