so i have a bfg tech 7800gtx that artifacts a lot on bf2.. it has the stock cooler on it and runs really hot.. 55-60 on idle and 80-90 on load.. i was wondering if artifacts are because of heat or if it's a faulty card?

RMA it.

I'm not sure about temps for the 7800.. they look normal so I am guessing that its just a bad core.

My 7800GT loads at 70ish, I don't know how a GTX fairs but that seems a bit high. Either way, RMA!

def RMA it. I had a ti4400 GS that ended up artifacting on the destop ... Gainward replaced it for a ti4600 GS :p

*hugs Gainward*

RMA, for sure. also keep in mind your case cooling.. might not be up to par in the right spots.

how do i know exactly what artifacting is? i think i might have it, but not sure.

especially when playing fear i get like white dots that pop up randomly on teh screen, happens occasionally on BF2. Sometimes on HL2 mods mess up abit.

my pc then freezes occasionally too, never on fear. but on BF2 and WOW, and a few times on hl2 mods.

The white dots are artifacts. If it's doing this at stock speeds my guess is that the card has a bad pipe or pipes.

RMA it.

all of a sudden these lines are appearing, even on the desktop. is it my moniter or my video card?

Hit [Print Screen] > open paintbrush > press Ctr+Z..

Are the lines still there?

I'm thinking vid card, but to be sure try the monitor on another PC.

Are you overclocking it?

Everyone who assumed he wasn't: He didn't say stock speeds, he only said stock cooler.

My 7800gtx is also having similar problems at stock. I had a mild OC for a bit, but then I clocked it down due to artifacts, but now that I'm back at stock, it still artifacts.

I am in the process of getting it RMA'ed back to BFG. Slow process, ugh

Try reseating the card, updating the motherboard chipset drivers, and the video drivers. I hope your not using the driver from the CD as almost every manufacturer has problems with those. Try taking off your side pannel. If it still has artifacts rma it. BTW try another game, don't ever rma a card based on 1 game let alone battlefield 2. Get the game patches for bf2 if you haven't but try another game or download 3dmark as it's free and you can test for artifacts there.

hmm.. i've tried reseating the card a couple of times because i had to exchange my motherboard.. artifacts still happened both times.. drivers are all new.. 1008 bios, 6.66 chipset and 81.85 video drivers.. my side panels are already off.. bf2 1.03 patch already installed.. artifacts a little.. every once in a while.. i do have 3dmark so i will try that out real quick to see if it does it on there..

okay, but after all of that I'm a bit worried. It shouldn't be artifacting at this point. Also the new chipset drivers are out, ver 670. They shouldn't help as I didn't artifact with 6.66 but who knows. I've seen stranger things.

sweet.. i dunno why but i LOOOOOVE downloading new drivers.. im homo like that.. anyway, yea, im downloading 607 driver for my chipset right now..

i ran 3dmark and i didnt really see any artifacts, but its kinda hard to tell with all those flashing lights and fire from guns and white rain spots and blah, so i ran rthdribl and couldnt see any either.. but the window IS really small on rthdribl..

we'll see if this driver does anything..

I get those same exact temps, so it can't be heat causing that. I would go with the others on this one and suggest an RMA.

I'm in talks with BFG right now about my 7800gtx, and they seem to be hung up on my power supply? What power supply are you running?

what chipset on your mobo? have you checked your chipset voltage in BIOS? take a few minutes and try 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7 ... see if you get better results

Very good suggestion, also while your there check your power supply rails to see if they are within acceptable range. Especially note the +12v rail and make sure it's running at least near 11.5 - 12v+

my rails are alittle off.. 12v+ @ 11.19, 5v+ @ 3.06, 3.3v+ @ 3.26.. i dont really know how to change those though.. i will try the chipset voltage right now..

hmm.. ghetto.. chipset voltage only goes up to 1.6v and there's only 1.5v or 1.6v.. that sucks..

5 volt rail at 3.06? That sounds like a problem...

And you can't change the voltage on the rails.

They all seem low to me. This is without accelleration. They drop further when you run something intensive. I think BFG tech is right. I've had the neopower 480 and it is one solid Mofo, I think it's just faulty. Test with other high end PSU and if works fine. Try RMA on psu?

im kind of strapped on cash.. i had a ocz ps600 but i changed to pc p&c because i thought it was the best psu.. i dont know what would possibly cause the low 5v rail.. anyone have any suggestions?

RMA it.

another question, it only happens in FEAR and BF2 sometimes.... in HL2 it doesnt do it.

i got rid of my box and everything lol.... im stupid.

so can i still RMA it?
