I have a Powercolor ATI X800 Pro VIVO, now XT PE with the soft mod. For about 3 or 4 weeks now I have had this card modded. Since day 2 of the mod I have had my clock settings at 520 core, and 460 memory. If I pull the memory to around 480 it starts to artifact in games after a while. So I left it at 460. The core however I found to work great.
Right now I have DirectX 9.0c and CAT 4.8 with ATITool for my overclocking (along with 100% fan speed with the new fan control
). I'm not sure if it is my card or what but all of the sudden now I'm getting artifacts with the Ruby tech demo. It's only on the hair near the end of the demo when she jumps off with the parachute. Even when I pull all the clock speeds to the original pro speeds it artifacts. What's up with this? I could have sworn that last night everything was perfect... I also notice that in some scenes that the color of Ruby's face is MUCH darker than usual, almost like she put on charcoal for makeup.
Now with like, 480 dollars of video card I don't want it to die out, but I need to know what might be causing this... I started noticing these changes since i got ATITool .21 yesterday, but as far as I know there are no problems in any games I play (Far cry, Unreal tournament, Raven Shield. However, I have noticed a few missing poly's in Far Cry but that was when I was testing my overclock ability with the higher fan speed).
Because of the artifacting I cant think of any other reason but a hardware issue. But I have used these clocks so long, and my temperatures are so low I don't see how the hardware could be at fault. The highest I've overclocked my card (not prolonged periods of time) was 540 core and 560 memory (didn't touch the memory but after the bios flash it was set to default speeds and I tried running 3Dmark03. On the second test there were horrendous amounts of artifacting and closed immediately and underclocked the ram).
I remember a while back reading on something about the X800 Pro to XT mods (not sure if it referred to the hard mod, soft mod, or both) that ATI said some cards would begin to die out. Is this what is happening to me or is ATI just lying to scare people away from a free boost?
