So i looked around, and i know as5 takes about 4-6 days to cure, and drops temps about 4C? Well my current temps are kinda worrying me if thats the story, Speedfan is reporting temps of 51C for Core and 44C for temp 2 (Im guessing those are my Cpu temps). Those are my idle temps. Should i be worried? I applied a small rice dot of as5 before putting on the tuniq, I also replaced the stock fan with a Thermaltake Thunderblade (78Cfm).

Anything wrong here? My old big typhoon had temps of around 39-40C Idle. Any thoughts or should i just clock my cpu down a bit and wait for as5 to cure?
 
I use CoreTemp to monitor my temps. On my X2 4200+ @ 2.4, my temps are 28C on stock cooling & volts. What are your settings?
 
Decided to download coretemp and it shows this on idle:

My settings are there as well, everything is stable, cpu passed 24 hours @ 2.8ghz, as well as @ 3.0ghz, i decided to turn it down to 2.8ghz for now. I got lucky and my 3800x2 does 3.2ghz @ 1.65v, but temps are horrible, but it was stable for 6 hours before i turned it down.

Temps were way diff with my big typhoon, around 5-10C less on speedfan. I also did notice i used alot of as5 when i replaced the big typhoon with the tuniq as how there was as5 all around the edges of the cpu.

Another thing thats kinda weird to me, is doing normal stuff like opening firefox, opening wmp, stuff like that supposed to use 30% of the cpu? like right now as i type this core 0 is being 5% used and core 1 is @ 25%
 
So i decided to reapply as5, and i saw this:

I reapplied as5, and this time spread it around with a peice of a paper plastic bag and put the tuniq back on, one thing that made me worry is that the cooler shifted to one side, not that much but is making me wonder if that messed up the application.

Im pretty much gonna leave it as it is for atleast a week and see how my temps are, To me, having idle temps of 45-50C and as high as 60-65C in gaming is too much and then having to downlclock it, is just shifting me to order my new comp parts =/
 
So long story short, reapplied as5 once again due to the last application the cooler shifting a bit to the side once it was bolted down. Im really getting desperate here, My load temps never went over 60C with the big typhoon, and now with the tuniq load temps are over 70C according to coretemp. Im sure leaving as5 to cure is not gonna even the temps out, If this continues im just gonna reinstall the big typhoon, im actually using the same fan i used on the typhoon as in the tuniq and actually tested temps with the stock and thunderblade. Same temps, so i just left the thunderblade on.

Anyone have any idea whats going on? Or is the tuniq 120 really that worse than the big typhoon? 62 bucks worth on buying the cooler is gonna be sad to be a waste =/

Wow after 10 mins of full prime95, load temps are 71C & 80C (Current speed is 2.6ghz @ 1.42V), while with the big typhoon it never went over 60C on either core.
 
I have never noticed a 'curing' time with AS5 in the 4 years I've been using it. Same temp the 1st day as the last.
 
I've switched from AS5 to the MX-2 which is easier to apply and gave me better temps for cpu and gpu.
 
That's good to hear. I have only used AS5 and Ceramique but I am using MX-2 in my next build.
 
Well MX-2 is non conductive which is nice especially for gpus. It also spreads more easily.
 
I notice a temp change after AS5 curing on lapped heatsinks, otherwise i've never really noticed a difference.
 
dude your running 1.6v through that cpu according to cpuz..normal max volts with air cooling is normally on those chips is 1.5v..plus manchester cpu's were early spins and always ran hot at least on the systems i ran..I had much cooler temps and only used 1.42v on toledo core x2's..
that 1.6 would scare the s#%$ out of me...you really need water cooling to bring temps down on your system...if you stick with air cooling youll need a wind tunnel of a case...

LOL ... I was just thinking the same thing. 1.6v is a bad thing for that chip, especially on air. Toledo x2's and Opty's just ran cooler and much lower voltages. My old 165 did 2.8 at 1.32v for reference.

OP, lower your vcore. Wouldn't want to let the genie out.
 
Thats the thing im talking about, i used to run my 3800x2 @ 3.0ghz @ 1.6v, and even in load it will never go over 60C on the big typhoon, where as on the tuniq it wont even boot now, temps go up to 80C while booting and give me the blue screen. Even @ 2.6ghz @ 1.425, where my load temps will never go as high as 54C and idle was under 30C on the typhoon, its still the same story as if it was @ 2.8ghz, idle temps hover on average on 39-40C and load temps over 72C. Room temp is about 60F ish here.

Im really about to switch back to the typhoon, looks like i wasted 62 bucks on the cooler, i was atleast expecting the same temps, im sure your wondering if its air circulation, but my masstige is a king on that section, 1 120mm fan on the front feeding air directly on the tuniq, then being exhausted to the back. Even having 3x80mm side fans feeding more air towards the cooler. The tuniq seems to be seated perfectly. So im pretty much bumped here, guess ill be storing this cooler for my next upgrade late December.

After reading reviews about the tuniq, im very disappointed and hopping its something wrong with my side. Cause im pretty sure a overclocked q6600 @ 3.8ghz runs hotter than my 3800x2 and yet the temp diff are huge.
 
im gonna lap my cpu and both coolers and see what happends, at worst ill have to go back to my typhoon and maybe have cooler temps.
 
Yeah, I was going to suggest lapping the tuniq. Base might be fubbed up.
 
so i lapped the tuniq, just the tuniq for now, and my temps @ 2.6ghz went down by a bit, load temps dont go over 55C and idle hover around 34-35C, At 2.8ghz its a diff story and i dont even wanna try 3.0ghz.
 
2.6 to 2.7 is the sweet spot for Manchester 3800x2's really. Getting 3Ghz out of it is something else, but that 1.6v vcore is a tad excessive and you might damage the chip eventually.
 
Yup, reason i left it @ 2.8ghz or 3.0ghz was because the temps, @ 3.0ghz idle temps were around 35C idle and 59C load, so i left it there for a while.

I left it currently @ 2.6ghz and im getting less if not the same temps then from my typhoon now that i applied some more as5.

Im upgrading to a e7200 and im building a am2 media/folding comp, Ill prob give this comp away to my fam for their uses, im a roll over the tuniq to the e7200 system, if i see i got a good overclocker i might head into wc for future builds.
