OK so I decided to clean my 6800 ultra. I took the heat sink and fan off and re applied AS5 to the GPU. My ram on the ultra had white pads that seemed to sit inbetween the HS and ram.

If I where to replace the white pads with a little bit of AS5 would I run into problems? I know AS5 is conductive due to the silver in it, do I pose any problems having it directly on top of the ram chip then touching the HS?

let me know since I have it appart now hehe.

Basically should I use the AS5, or keep the white pad thats on there on there?

yea they seem to be with like threads through them or something, they are fairly thin. Do you think AS5 IS ok tho, am I looking at problems when adding a pure liquid compared to a mostly solild pad/paste?

GDDR3 hardly gets hot, so you really shouldnt bother wasting your AS5 on the GPU's RAM. just basic OEM thermal paste should be fine w/ the RAM.

i did my 6800 gts last night. you may want to see how much space their is from the cooler to the ram chips. if the cooler sits right on them i would use the as5 if not use the pads
