Artic Silver 5 cure time

Ok question, how long is the Artic Silver 5 cure time? I just got a Thermalright SI-128, put it in with AS5. My idle temp is 36C and load is around 41-43C. Which is really nice compared to my old Thermaltake Golden Orb II. But the idle is up about 5C! Is it just the AS5 not cured yet, it's only been two days since I put it on. On the upside though, the load is down about 9C. :)

Thanks,
Anavel

maybe a couple of degrees if that. i have tried all different types of thermal compound and really the difference between them all is only a couple of degrees. on air cooling the variable that has the most affect on idle and load temps is ambient temperature. if its 80 degrees where your computer is then no thermal compound is going to give you that great of a result. this arctic silver stuff has become, in my opinion and dont want to start a flame fest, an internet urban legend on how great it is.

idle temp is not important. it is the load temp. i'd rather have an idle temp of 45C and a load of 39C rather than have an idle of 39C and have a load of 45C.

Assuming you have good air flow and proper AS application, I believe that after the AS cures, temps can drop by about 5C. As for curing time, I don't quite remember. But you are supposed to let the stuff heat up and cool until it cures and temps drop. So don't all out super pi, and try to shut the comp down now and then.

After load my temps take forever to drop back down. After a long stint of gaming my temps will only drop about 2-3C after an hour or more idle. I'm also using an Aerocool fan, maybe it isn't working well with the SI-128? And the idle temps just get higher and higher as the day goes on, and it isn't from ambient room temp. My A/C blows right out at the case.

Your results seem a bit off. Are you sure that you've mounted correctly and with the proper amount of AS5? Also, how good is your case airflow?
From what I've seen, the AS5 has to be able to heat and cool on order to fully cure. If you can't get it to cool by idling, maybe throttle back the CPU speed after gaming or hardwire the fans on and shut the comp down.
However, it sounds like there's a problem, not the normal curing process.

Case airflow is good, Lian-Li PC-V1000 Plus II. So I don't think it's that. After gaming last night i shut my computer completely down, not sure if this was long enough but I'll be doing it more.
I'll keep you posted.

This isn't the first time I've used Artic Silver 5 and I can confirm that it is a very good thermal paste. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying there aren't other options out there, I'm just saying that it really is that good. I've heard a lot of good stuff about a couple others out there too.

Also, I just noticed that after it rained real hard out the outside temp dropped a lot so the A/C wasn't running as much. So maybe that's a part of the temps not being as low. But like I said that load temp is still way down, it's just the idle that didn't drop.

Ok just an update. It's been about 72 hours now since I put on the heatsink and Artic Silver 5. Both idle and load temps are dropping noticeably. Just thought I'd update in case anyone wanted to know a rough estimate of the time it takes.
