Hey I got a amd 64 winchester 3200+ I believe. Using Thermaltake cooler and AS5, I built the computer and used it for 1 week and that was approx 1 year ago, since then its been sitting. I'm about to plug it in and start using it.

Was wondering if I should take the cooler off and reapply the compound or will it still be intact and be ok to use as is?

I'd say clean it off, along with everything else (i bet there's tons of dust in that).

The compound should have set up mostly in that week of use. Id leave it alone. If you do decide to take the cooler off get the Arctic cleaner stuff (comes in two bottles) and clean that baby before you apply the next dose of AS5.
I did it yesterday as a matter of fact before putting an arctic cool pro on an FX-53. Man the top surface was so shiny you could see your face.

The stuff costs like 10 bucks.

No you don't have to reapply. Once you start it up though, check the temps under load. If they are too high for you, you could try reapplying or just cleaning the dust out. But it should be fine if you don't want to reapply.

And if you do, use Arti-Clean as magoo said, or some isopropyl alcohol. Either should work good. Although Arti-Clean smells like lemon :) and can give you a headache!

Thanks for the replys. I have cleaned out the dustbunnies out of the entire case and the cooler so I should be ok to run the old stuff? i was planning on booting it up just enough to get into bios and check my temps and go from there, hopefully it will be ok.

Should be fine, and shouldn't need to be dusted...
