Had a p8p67 deluxe before, and it overclocks my 2600k to 4.8ghz @ 1.36v stable... but then what happened is the the integrated sound is not working so had it returned and grabbed another same one from mc... Everything is the same except for that I added another gtx580 for two way sli.. and since then i couldnt get stable at 4.8ghz with 1.36v anymore.. i'll get bsod playing BF2 and stuff...

Many peoples said that all p67 mobos overclocks the same.. so i'm just wondering if this is correct.. because appearantly my second board does not overclock as well as my first.. but not sure if it's the second gpu causing the instability...

Any help will greatly appreciated..
Sry for long post..

Here are the specs of the rig:
2600k
p8p67 deluxe
5 hard drives ( stupid maybe? )
2x gtx580s
corsair tx850 PSU - maybe not enough power??

Your configuration isn't the same at all. Did the integrated sound ever work? Possibly you killed with with the overclock (rare but possible). Adding another GTX580 into the mix introduces additional system loads and possible conflicts that the original board was not dealing with.

Also when people say that P67 board overclock the same, they usually mean "the same" within a small margin of error. No two boards are identical and if you are really pushing the limits, you will get slightly different results on various boards based on manufacturing differences.

How are your checking your overclocks anyway? Its usually good to get a mix of sythentic testing (Prime 95, Linpack...) and real world conditions like FPS games that cause your CPU to go through different power states and clock speeds as the game runs.

I see.. thx for reply

The integrated sound never worked for my first board.. but it worked on my second board... anyways.. i think i might try pulling one gpu out and test it again and see if its stable... hopefully it does or else i'm just gana missed my first board very much even with no integrated sound heh, cuz i can just buy a 20$ sound card from the egg...

Anyways.. should i jump to z68?? although oc ability is the same but i'm pretty interested into the Virtu and quicksync because i do transcoding once a while.. ( although my main reason is to hope i can get a board that can oc better than the one i'm having lolz )...

No, not all motherboards overclock the same. Some have higher quality components and more phases to deal with the load of a CPU overclock. As Ocellaris has stated, no two boards even of the same model are the same either - there is always a small margin of difference. Sometimes it's tangible, sometimes it isn't.

If you get Z68 with the intention of a better overclock you are going to be very disappointed. They are no "better" for OCing, beyond if you happen to buy a higher end board than the one you currently have with P67.

You should definitely pull out a GPU and test stability by the way.

The PSU should be enough, but yes it's worth checking without a card. I would bump up the vcore and see if you're still stable. There are tolerances on the voltage supplies and 1.36 in the bios might be 1.35V on one board and 1.37V on another board.

How did you test stability?
