went to setup my p4 i've been slowly collecting parts for.

got 98% throu the 2k3 server install when i got the dreaded IRQ_NOT_blah BSOD

I reset it, and now it doesn't post. I said screw it and will deal with it later, but its just so fusterating. I'm hoping its the video card blown up, as it doesn't get hot anymore.
 
I just got a few free slow boxen, just tried to power one up.... stupid thing won't even turn on.

Yea, computers... much easier when they work. Good luck with your P4

its just then perfect end to the perfect day.. ya know..

course i could be this guy i read about on another forum who put bengay on a spot that had gotten chafed from running..

Between the two, I think he had a worse day.

Memtest it, see what the dilly, continue.

i hope not, that and the cpu are the only 2 things i don't have spares for
 
Murphy's Law of computing, the only parts that go bad are the one's you don't have a spare for. :D

Murphy's law of computing 2, it's the spendy parts that are acting up, so you buy a spare, and that wasn't it, again, and again. :D

it wouldn't even post..

it did turn out to be the stick of 256 pc2100 that was in it died, I've just never seen one die so quickly..

:(


 
Aww, that sucks man. Search the parts swap thread for some DDR man. I'm sure someone can help you out.

i happened to have a pair of 128meg sticks layin around..

I was going to buy another 256 stick anyway, so i'll just end up buyin a pair of em..

*shrug* this is an upgrade box for my mom, i was just installing 2k3 server for the fun of it.

she can wait till i get the new memory..

 
Update, Managed to find 2 sticks of 128 pc2100 layin around, she's up and running and folding for the [H]ord.. p4 1.8ghz goodness..

anyone recommend optimizations to run?
