alright guys, first off lets say i'm looking for a nice decent psu. i was thinking about 850w but, i said to myself that's an overkill. However i was looking at the 700w, i also said to myself that it was too low. i'm very unsure what to decide and what to determine how much watts my pc would need? I looked at few places (calculator craps) and i kept getting different results.

here is what i have for specs (maybe soon) i dont have them for the build yet. any suggestions for those parts, would be great to!

I will have a 24" lcd monitor, will do sli setup in the near future (few months) and i possibly will go higher on the ram aswell. Also that hard drive isnt the only one i will get, i already have a 250gb hd right now, the one in the wishlist will be the 2nd hd.

Lastly, any one got good ideas i could do "spice up" this bad boy rig? such as fan controller and other stuff or w/e.

any inputs would be great

holy crap! thats a huge save for me! thanks bro!

still havnt answered my question..

i was looking at few other psu's, thermaright though power 850 watts seem like a good one. Whats the minimum of wattage i should have for my setup?

q6600
evga 8800gts (g92) card (
2x2gb ddr2 1000 or 1066 g skill ram
unsure about motherboard 680i or p35k ones
fans probly 6? unsure
2 hard drive (250gb and 500gb) both 7200 rpm
dvd/rw

i think thats all? Remember, i'm planning on doing SLI setup and some nice OCing in few months and i want enough room to play with without loseing power or w/e.

I'm not sure what wattage i should be looking out for. I know i want to follow tier 1 psu's.

get a corsair, i have one in each of my main systems, i have yet to drain them

my personal system is a core2 e6750 on a 680i oc'd at 3.5 and an 8800gt 512, i have 3 hard drives in, 2 opticals and a bunch of led fans and a set of cathodes, this thing doesn't even break a sweat, i have the 8800 pretty heavily clocked and haven't had an issue yet. keep in mind this is on a 620w power supply, i had an ocz 700 that i wouldn't trust to be as stable as this thing, and if you are shaky about 620. i am fairly certain corsair makes a 750 now which can more than handle what you have, quite possible including an sli card.

keep this in mind, actual wattage doesn't mean all that much, its the other numbers and sustained output that means more, think about those low end 1000w psu's that if you look at their specs look like a name brand 500/600w

First off, I think the DDR2 1000 is a waste. If you hit a very nice Kentsfield overclock of, say, 3.8Ghz, then your only going to push 420Mhz FSB, which at 1:1 some quality DDR2 800 can do with ease, in worst case senario, increasing CAS to 5.

Next, don't expect 8800 prices to drop in a few months, even after the release of the "9 series". If your plan was to buy now, buy a second after the new cards come out, don't think its that clear cut. 8800 prices wont drop and the new parts could very well perform better then 2 8800s in SLI, at the same, or even cheaper, price point.

Anyways, as to your question:

Corsair signed with Seasonic to make the HX power supplies. They are steller by all accounts. They then signed with Channel Well to make the VX power supplies. The 550W VX is superb, but the 750W hits 100mV on the 12V at full load --which isn't bad per se, but isn't too comfortable either, its still within spec. I don't know who builds the TX models. But juding by corsairs history, I would have to assume they're quality units.

aside from the corsairs you might look at the PC P&C psus, which tend to rock all numbers accept efficiency and are often loud as fook (even the silencer lines!).

The ProXstream from OCZ (built by PC P&C) are generally very good power supplies, the GameXStream is decent (no better then an FSP), and the StealthXStream being terrible. Do not, ever, use a stealthXsteam. I know it says 700W at $70, but it sucks. Trust me. Not fun.

The FSPs offer fantastic value, but do generally push the limits of specifications. Considering the price point the represent however, I think they can be forgiven.

Enermax is same old Enermax. Rebadged seasonic units. Good quality, across the board, never steller.

The Thermaltake Toughpower line is a jewel amounts crap. I have no idea who builts their TR2's or w/e they are but its crap. The toughpower PSUs, even under small load, tend to put out reasonably high ripple, never reaching above 100mV however. Thermaltake's marketing tends to beef up the numbers a little. The 1KW and 1.2KW units are spectacular (sporting up to 87% efficiency which is fantastic and not a fake number). The rest of the lineup however, can usually only barely handle the rated spec, if at all. The 750W will not do 17A on each 12V. They will all however do 15A.

As for the wattage, Id say a 700 should do you, making sure you have a combined 12V output of at least ~450W (~40A) peak.

edit: also, don't go entirely from Newegg. All the major e-tailers have pretty good reputations, and they are always trying to undercut each other with the most popular parts. Check out: NCIXUS, Zipzoomfly, and Tigerdirect, as well as newegg.

Don't forget that the GameXstream and StealthXstream and modXstream are pretty much exactly the same; fsp epsilon with varying degrees of awesome added to it.

I don't suggest any of them though. out of spec ripple at high loads.

Corsair HX620 should allow you the headroom for Sli in the future. Plus it's modular

thanks guys! that really helped me out there. I belive i've come to a point of picking pc/pc silencer 750w.

that should do it? if so i'll take it. MrWizard6600 thanks for your input, it really ment much to me. I have the same feeling about the ram, however i'm the type of person "bring it on" and get high stuff, meaning i tend to max out on ram 4g or more if could with ddr2 1066 or 1000. same for video card, i try to keep up. As a matter of fact i'm coming from a long behind in generations lol. Which is geforce mx4000 card. Yes i know i'm way behind right now, cant wait for a new rig!

reason why i wanted 8800gts hence i cant afford ultra nor the 9th series just yet. i'm not willing to wait for another few more months! heh, i've been waiting since june (when my pc crashed and i had no money). currently i'm on my laptop.

Lastly, i'm not getting everything from newegg... i just have everything in 1 wishlist, to have a estimated cost and see what i have listed instead of looking at each site's wishlist lol.
