Areca VS LSI

I also like the Areca the most, but its also the card there is hardest too get, I need too get it shipped from netherlands if i chose that.
There is also one more thing, that is as far as i can see only the arece supports JBOD and i am thinking alot if i should use JBOD or Rard5 or 6 for my home storrage system. I am going too build a Narco 4224 projekt.
There is just a thing i need too know. If i chose too get the Areca can i run both alot of disk with JBOD and then also a few Raid6 pools and the same time. Or is i limited too one of the raid options. Or can i run multiply raid sets ?
And a little question more, i was thinking of going with the ASUS P8B-E/4L ATX mobo will there be any issues regard one of the raid controllers ? Or is there a better option i will run an xeon cpu, I heard that xeon is better when it comes too storrage ? or should i go with i5 or i7 etc ?

If you run JBOD, a disk failure is a complete loss of that drive's data. If you do RAID6 (Suggested) you can survive 2 drive failures and still maintain uptime. Keep in mind that RAID of any kind is not a backup. You should have a copy of all your important data offsite if possible, but not directly connected if local (if possible). You can build multiple RAID sets on the card, I generally recommend no more than 12 drives (not counting spares) per RAID6 array. The 24 port card (or an 8 port + Expander) would be great for a 24 drive chassis.
As to the motherboards, when you are dealing with enterprise hardware like HW RAID cards it is better to use a server-level board (Such as a Supermicro) and not a consumer board. Some of the Asus workstation boards as good, I haven't used that board from what I remember.
I will for sure take a look into Supermicro motherboards, and I was thinking doing a JBOD becuse when i do raid 5 or 6 all drives need too spinning when i stream from that. But ofc i could just make an raid 6 for movies. I will ofc have backups off importent data like Pictures and home made videos.
I am not comfortubale with an expender i have thougt about it too, not sure either. But as things are now i am not going too get an expender. I will add an expender when the first narco is full planning and setup 2 narcos with 48 drives total but not befoere the first one is full. It coast alot of money too

you can try to use expander and see your result. Make sure your expander do not overheat by placing at certain area in your case or add a fan.
speaking on "money", if you need to expand to 24 drives with one 8 ports RAID card, you save "money" instead buying two additional RAID card.
