Areca 1680 memory upgrade Q's

I would like to upgrade the memory on my Areca 1680ix-16 to 4G, but I'm not sure what module to get.

The module that came with the card seems to be a DDR2-533Mhz with ECC.

So I've found the following modules that might work.

Kingston: KVR533D2Q8R4/4G (ECC, registered)
KVR533D2Q8R4/4G Datasheet

Kingston: KVR533D2D4F4/4G (ECC, fully buffered)

Would any of these modules work, or do I need to look at something else?
 
You need DDR2 with ECC, not ECC/Registered or FB (both of which are for servers). This thread has more information regarding your question.
 
also, if you have the information on the ranking of the currently installed DIMM, that would be useful as well. (it's usually coded into the part #)
 
4gb chip is still pretty price and not really worth it, go with 2gb and get something that's ecc but not fully buffered
 
This one is stated as compatible/working with the 1680ix series. It MUST be the ix to support 4GB unbuffered ECC!

Even though it's come down a lot it's still a far stretch from the $25 2GB module. Double up on cache will allow delaying writes longer but remember flushing the cache will also be burdensome to your disk array(s) especially if their writes are weak. Having more spindles/SSD devices will help though. Just using 4GB on a pair of disks is discouraged for that reason.

I did some searching before opening this thread but didn't find anything, I guess I didn't search hard enough! :)

I'll check again if the 4GB modules can be had for a reasonable price, otherwise I'll probably just throw in a 2GB module. Unfortunately the 4GB Crucial module isn't available here (Denmark).

Also according to the other thread my first suggestions won't work but the Kingston modules which should (KVR667D2D8P5 or KVR533D2E4) are both available and quite cheap (for the 2GB modules, the 4GB is insanely expensive).
 
You're looking at $30 for the 2gb module and $300 for the 4gb one. I guess 1.5x that price since you are in Europe.
 
The cheapest price i could find for a 2GB KVR667D2D8P5 module was around $36, whereas the 4GB module is around $546.

So I ordered the 2GB module :)
 
I guess that isn't too bad considering you are in Europe. The 4gb module has been ridiculously priced ever since it came out unfortunately.
 
yes prices for the 4gb are nuts, not worth the performance boost over 2gb
