Hi!
I have Areca 1210 ML (4 channel raid card controller) with 4 x 400Gb WD RE2 (SATA) disks RAID SET with RAID5 volume on it. Today i was forced to relocate server from one room to other and that means powering server OFF / ON. After server was moved and powered ON, Areca's BIOS start beeping with "No bios installed on boot" message. I go to Areca's BIOS and see that disk on channel 3 is not working - i try it on other machine and it seems it is broken, like it had a bad sectors. So i temporarily put a new disk (Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750Gb) on same channel (3) until i get a new WD disk. Areca recognize the disk but it does not start to repair a RAID / VOLUME SET. So i mark a new disk as a Hot Spare but still i get message: "TMD RAID 5 :3/4 Disks: Incomplete" on "Raid Set Function / Raid Set Information" option.
As i say, i didn't change disk positions (channels), i only take broken disk out, replace it with working one and make them HOT SPARE. But as i read on forums, that can be a problem if this is done when machine was turned off.
Would activating incomplete RAID SET (putting them into Degraded) help to recover on new disk?
Please, any sugestion how to make RAID SET to new disk without data loss is welcomed...
Thank you in advance!
