Are you skipping 2500/2600K?

I currently have an i7 920 that OCs really well. I may consider upgrading if the 2011 series ends up being delayed a lot and I can get decent money after maxing out what I can get out of my 920, but at this point I don't have any strong reason to other than getting some boints.

Primarily, I'm skipping this generation because my current system (Q9650 oc) with a 4870x2 its still treating me well. Plus, with the mishap with MB's a necessary revisions AND news of the new MB's and AMD CPU coming out so soon, I'm gonna wait.

PS I have no problems playing Starcraft 2 on my system.

currently have a 980x so I think the answer to why I'm skipping is obvious... maybe 2 - 3 more generations

Currently on Corei7950. I know I can do better with a 2600k or 2500k but its simply not enough for me to want to upgrade at all. Atop of that I love the x58 Chipset and grew tired from the P6x series chipset fiasco. So Yeah im sticking to my 950 until even faster/more core processors become available in a couple of years or so.

I have a Q6600 @ 3.6GHz and my laptop with a Sandy Bridge i7 2720QM is probably double the speed.

I got a i7 860 @3.5 and I see no need to upgrade. I'm still half way into my 3 year upgrade cycle. But I'm building a LAN pc soon and I want to see if BD is any match for SB and then I'll decide what to do.

I upgraded from an i7-920. The time savings in terms of processing power aren't that large, but they exist nonetheless (I primarily benefit in faster compile times). Besides, selling off my X58 components resulted in essentially a no-cost sidegrade, and now my SB build eats fewer watts.

I'm tempted to upgrade just because of the sheer amount of power draw of my machine... idle.

Sit's there at 300w idle according to my killawatt and 220w stock. I want to keep the performance while dropping power draw when unneeded w/o turning the machine off (kinda got this thing against that) and been looking at that 2500k's power draw even at 5Ghz. Temptation is strong, won't lie.

Currently on C2D and skipping. :)

Might probably go for something that's a generation behind 2500K/2600K. S1156 processors that's been blessed with a price drop, perhaps? :D

Probably quoting what alot of others are saying, but my 920 @ 4.0 still feels fast and cutting edge to me. I generally try to make my full system upgrades last as long as possible, and I haven't run into anything that makes me sit back and think "i REALLY wish my cpu was faster" yet.

I'm afraid of this argument's effectiveness. It's what kept my E6600 around from 2006 to the end of 2009. Hell, the 'ol 965P-DS3 Rev 1.0 has seen a 6600GT, X800GTO, X1900XT, 8800GTS 320, 4850 and 4890 o_O

Heh, I'm still using an e4300/965P-DS3 rev 3.3/8800gts.

I think it's time for an upgrade.
