I keep reading about how awfull TN panels are as fare as viewing angel goes, but im currently working of a Syncmaster 245B plus, but when checking angels any and all angels that would be comfortable to view the screen in im also perfectly able to view and read anything. We dont sitt down 12 people infront of a 24" with popcorn to watch movies, thats why we got a 42" plasma in the livingroom. Im sitting down dead center of the monitor, only half a meter away or so, and I really cant see what all this talk about viewingangels are about.

Are my standards just that damn low, or is this slightly hypped up?

On big screens the size alone means that viewing angles will be an issue even when viewed straight-on.

Your standards are low and/or you just don't move around a lot. Before reading this post I was leaning back in my chair, to the left of my Samsung 226bw sorting through some songs in foobar2k while the program was fullscreen. Problem was, I could barely read what was at the top of the display because of the poor viewing angle, so I had two choices - 1) sit up in about a foot in my chair so I could read it, or 2) window the program and move it lower on the display so I can read what I need to read.

Why should I have to do either? Why can't I simply view the top of the panel the same as the bottom?

This is just one of the reasons I ordered a Dell 2209WA, which is an IPS panel LCD, on Friday.

The huge majority of screens sold right now seems to be TN panels tho, and I find it very hard to belive so many people buy crappy monitors, and even keep recommending them. I tried again to move around the desk, but no matter how I view the screen from my desk I aint got much of a problem reading. And if I should decide to sit at a very odd angle I can always move the screen to help with that.

That beeing said, I might need to check out some other paneltyps out there and see how they compare side by side. But right now im not willing to spend the amount of money a IPS panel in the 26" size cost sadly

It definitely depends on your taste. If you can live with a TN panel then you'll be spending hundreds less on a screen that's ok for colors and movies but especially great for games (low panel lag).

But you'll notice that when slouching down on a chair or when moving left to right sometimes the colors will change on you. It got annoying with games making me have to sit up so the scene wouldn't be too dark or color shift being too distracting when playing FPS.

If you can find a MVA/PVA panel without some type of scaling then you'll have a low lag monitor that's better than TN and usually cheaper than IPS screens.

Of course the cream of the crop right now for computer panels are IPS but you'll be paying a good amount for it. I have a S-IPS screen and personally I think it was one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. FYI I went from a 22" TN to a 24" S-IPS.

It depends on personal preference.

I don't particularly like TN panels because of the limited viewing angles, issues with color banding as well as color accuracy.

I rather spend $800 - $1,300 for a monitor with excellent color accuracy, color uniformity and wide viewing angles with low color shifting.

I have a new Samsung T240 and the viewing angles are FAR superior compared to my older Samsung 940B. TN's have come a long way, they look great IMHO. However, I would not use one as a TV in a sitting room with spread chairs unless I was sititng relatively in front of it. That's their only problem.

That said, I think the issue is way overblown. Who the hell works on their computer from the side, or standing and typing and looking down? I comapred a lot of mnitors. Snowdogs posts were the ultimate decider for me. It's either that high quality non-wide gmut NEC or a very good TN panel. Everything else is a waste.

I'd like to know what you think of this model...the price that you can get it for for an nice IPS model is very alluring. :)

Be sure to take lots of nice pictures, too! :D
