Are these temps really possible?

I just put together a new system with an Asus M2N-E SLI board and an X2 5200+ cpu. I had no intention of doing any overclocking with this set-up so I just went with the stock cooling that came in the box (I didn't even bother to scrape the crap insulation off and replace it with AS). The idle temps with AMD cool 'n quiet are amazing and under load I only hit around 44c. I have one side fan and one exhaust fan in the case and I'm using an OCZ Stealth X-Stream 600W power supply. I had thought about getting and aftermarket HSF but I don't see why now. Did I just get lucky with the way things went together or is this common (this is my first X2 build)

Assuming your ambient temp is 5C+ less than your idle temp...

Check the temp of the heatsink fins.
If they feel pretty cold at idle and a bit warm at load then I'd say its close to the temps you reported.

If ambient is higher than the above idle temp, the readings are suspect.
 
I've labeled the second temp in my list there RAM. Though I'm not sure what it is. The bottom two go up to ~44C under load and the top two stay about the same. The first does read about 5 degrees hotter than ambient so that's why I assumed it was the MB. Would the occasional reading of the two cores being less than the MB at idle simply be because of the placement of the sensors.

My old Athlon XP 2500+ used to idle at what the 5200+ hits under load. That is normal and expected for these chips?

Having this cpu at load at 44 does that actually give me an increased envelope of temperatures? Would I still be marginally OK if I was hitting 53-54 and OCing a lot or is the fault tolerance scaled back for drifting electrons, they're still made out of silicon so it can't be that much different.
