I have a Intel core 2 duo e8400 3.00ghz and it runs at 45-50 degrees when idle and 65-70 degrees at load i use a cooler master hyper tx3 evo for cooling with stock thermal compound
Are these temps fine?
 
I'd say that's perfectly fine. I'm assuming load is when running through Intel Burn Test and not just your highest daily use? The Hyper TX3 isn't the best of coolers for that generation but it does the job much better than the stock. You could probably get a few C's improvement using the non-stock thermal compound, but in all reality I don't think that's much of a problem with those current temps. If it started reaching 75+ then I might consider the few tweaks I could just to safely manage things, but the truth is you could probably have it at over 80C load and most likely will replace the mobo/cpu before it dies.

I think you are fine at those temps. If you wanted to go through the trouble of removing the cooler and getting a higher quality thermal compound you could get a degree or two lower but that's up to you.
 
Those temps are good. Thats what I run with my stock cooler and arctic silver 5 on an i7 2700k

lol yeah that T Case crap really throws things off, got me nervous when I was trying to OC my Q9550. Intel should just dump it or throw up the actual temp people are really looking for like Nvidia/AMD do for GPU's.
 
yeah but all my other temps are perfectly fine like Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 runs at 30-34 C' when idle not sure about load....HDD runs at 30 C'
 
Are you running stock clocks? What program are you using to read the temperatures? Try using RealTemp and see what it reports. 50C is rather high for idle, especially given the temperatures of your other components (they suggest a low ambient temperature).
 
ok thanks dude i used RealTemp and idle temps were barely 45--49C' and i was surprised to see temps at load my system was constantly at a load of 85-100% and the emps did not cross 64C' most of the time it was 59-62C'...... hope that RealTemp says the truth!
 
You're not in danger, but to me that's hotter than it should be. I used to have an E8400 at 3.8 GHz on somewhat-budget air and I don't recall it getting over 60C full load.
 
My old E3300, in the middle of upgrading, ran for 3 years with a peak game temperature around 62C without any problems.
The CPU is still fine.

If you are running at stock clock and worry about temps, just lower the voltage a little.
The 45nm C2D chips undervolt like crazy.
 
It's been a while since I touched a C2D. But I remember them being hot little buggers. That being said I would reseat it. You temps are much to high with that heatsink at stock clocks. I'm not saying that the chip is going to die because of it, just that with decent air flow and that HSF you should be about 10C lower. (Assuming a room temp of ~24C)
