Wondering if these temps will be workable enough to try to overclock with - and I am already aware that the maximum operational limit of the chip is said to be 62 Celcius, so I am aware of that.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition stock clocks with Cooler Master V8 @ half speed (full speed makes no difference, literaly o_o) in my Cooler Master HAF 932 case.

Idle - 31C
Load - 44C

I did a light spread of Tuniq TX-2 on the CPU BUT i ended up wiping it off, trying something new (I did the pea-size droplet on the CPU and let the Heatsink spread it).

Should I try and do what I'm used to doing and do a light spread of the TX-2 on the entire CPU? Because it seems I may be semi-suffocating it and adding a couple of degree's. I am not sure - I had one of these CPU's before and it had ran at 26 C idle with a non-lapped TRUE-120 eXtreme Black with a 120mm Medium-Speed Yate Loon fan in an Antec 1200 tower.

I already know that all CPU's differ from one another in many aspects, operating temperatures being one of them. I just wasn't aware that the unlapped and even rough surface on the TRUE would outperform the smooth-surfaced V8 by a whole 5 degrees C o_o

Any input is very much appreciated - just don't bash please =P Still semi-new to the overclocking game =D

I'm a fan off the drop method myself. Though, if both methods are applied correctly, you won't notice much of a difference. My testing show the drop and spread method were within a single degree of each other. And yes, the TRUE is quite a bit better than the V8. Not saying the V8 is bad.

Just try both methods, and see what works best for you and your computer. We can give advice all day, but in the end, it's something you have to find out for yourself.

Also, when watching the temps, make sure you're paying attention to the "Core" temps and not the "CPU". The "CPU" sensor is on the mobo, so it's temps are not accurate. The "Core" is being read directly from the chip itself. I use HWMonitor, but AMD Overdrive will also show the "Core" temp too.
 
load temp of 44C at stock.. heck ya you have plenty of room to overclock.. as long as you stick with the multiplier and cpu voltage to overclock.. should easily hit 3.8ghz well under 60C and possibly hit the 4ghz mark if you have a decent chip.. either way an unlapped or lapped TRUE will out perform the V8.. the difference of 5C could be anything.. even a slight increase in ambient temp from when you had the TRUE vs the v8 now will effect those results.. if you increase the heat being produced by the processor you will probably start seeing a difference with the fan at 100% on the v8.. because the processors probably not creating enough heat to completely vaporize the liquid in the heatpipes.. but thats just something you have to mess with and see if the results change or not as you overclock and increase temps.. the IFX-14 is notorious for this with its huge heatpipes.. it completely sucks on the core 2 quads but owns the TRUE on an overclocked i7 due to the huge difference in heat output..

for idle temps those are pretty good (assuming your ambient isnt bone-cold), you have plenty of room, ive noticed on my PII(granted its an x2) a 500 mhz increase only gave me a 5-7 deg raise in both temps on a stock cooler from the origional phenom series(better than what came with my PII atleast)....

also- just do what "feels right", as the above poster said, its all down to preferance.......I would say use either program listed above, or core-temp which I have seen to be rather accurate when it comes to reading the core tempurature(when compared to both AMD overdrive and HWMonitor)

I am using HWMonitor to monitor my temps as well =P

Anyway, I just did my "first round" of testing it out and so far so good - got a 400mhz Increase (purely Multiplier OC) and got some good temps with it as well. Still 31C Idle, and this time 46C running Prime95.

As for CoreTemp, I think I'll give it a shot as well. I've got Everest, AMD Overdrive, HWMonitor, and oh it's just fun =P

Again though, thanks for the input! I'm going to keep toying with the Multi to see what my max stable multi is and then try the HT clock. I'll stick to stock voltage since it is my first time really OC'ing =)
 
Don't be afraid to adjust the voltage. Phenom II's are very forgivable in this respect. Going up to 1.45V should not be an issue with your cooling. 3.8Ghz should be well within your reach, assuming you didn't get a total dud. Also, look into raising the IMC/Northbridge speed, as that has a huge effect on overall performance, especially in games since it'll allow your CPU to feed you GPU that much faster. 2.4-2.6Ghz is a nice spot.
