The difference is the thickness, the Pro is thinner and doesn't require as much H2O displacement (pressure) to move air through it so it's better suited for low to medium flow fans than the Extreme is.

Yes, two of them will spank the monkey's ass for cooling that proc. In fact you could cool it and a GPU with two of them.
 
You would be better off with a double though. But two singles would do the job very well.

I would rather get a double because it would be easier, but with my new TJ09, the fan slots up top look like it would fit a double 120mm rad at first glance, but there is actually a gap between the fans so a double 120 rad wouldn't fit without some clever modification.
 
Yes I have a similar question about those - that is the difference between the black ice pro/xtreme/stealth. Then the difference between the X-Flow and non X-Flow. :confused: Pardon my ignorance... :p

I will be cooling an e6600 only so just looking for a single 120mm radiator.

Edit: Would like to use quiet/low flow fans...

How good would it cool? Right now with a Zalman 9500 my e6600 at 3.4ghz @ 1.39375v idles at low to mid 40's C and load with dual prime95, mid to high 60's C. How much better would this cooling we are talking about be? I'm pretty sure I can go to 3.6ghz with higher voltage. I think i got it to work somewhere around 1.48-1.5v, i can't remember, but the temps were starting to cook.

How would this apply to how powerful of a pump you would need for the 2 pros? So, the stronger the fans on the pro's, the better? Would you still want something like a swiftech mcp655 or whatever with the 2 single 120mm pro rad's?
 
If you're ONLY cooling a CPU, the difference between a single and double radiator is very small.

A Black Ice Pro (BIP) has a very good cooling capacity of about 225w when paired with a slow (1200) rpm fan (or 250w for 2x 7v 1200rpm fans). BEST CHOICE

A Black Ice Xtreme (BIX) has a terrible cooling capacity (150w) when paired with a slow (1200) rpm fan. AWEFUL CHOICE

A Black Ice Xtreme has a huge cooling capacity (300w) when pair with 1 or 2 high speed (2500+ rpm) fans. Good choice if you're deaf

The GTS Stealth performs poorly (about 175w, still better than the BIX) with a slow (1200rpm) fan, and about on-par with the BIX with a mid (1800rpm) fan... It provides the kick of the BIX, with about 25% less noise. Once again, it's not the best choice. OK choice...

The swiftech MCR110 and 220 radiators generally perform about 5-10% better than their equally sized Black Ice counterparts.

The Black ice GTX series rads are very thick, and not worth the cost... Useful only when you need to cool an SLI setup, but only have limited room. (25% better than BIP's of similar sizes)

The PA series radiator (thermochill) are the best on the market, but very expensive, and generally a bad deal unless you need complete silence, or are a rabid overclocker (35% better than similar BIP radiators)

(These wattage values are very approximate, and are for a SINGLE (AKA 1.120 or 1x 120mm radiator, they can be doubled when going to 2x 1.120 or a 240mm radiator)

Your CPU will put out about 150w of heat (At full load, with a huge OC and overvolting)... Therefore, the best choice for a single CPU is a single BIP. BIX's are great when you don't care about noise, but as you can imagine, a 120mm fan @ 2500 RPM is loud as hell.

The Xflows are optimized (hahaha, not really, but that's what HWlabs is saying) for a low flow setup. The difference between an Xflow and a non xflow is about 5%, regardless of your situation. NOTE: the Xflow has barbs on OPPOSITE ends of the radiator, whereas the regular has both barbs on the same side of the radiator. Choose one that will MINIMIZE your tubing run... I chose an Xflow because it eliminates about 1ft of tubing from my loop. Make sure to get the correct one.

If you want 2 pros, I suggest either the MCP655 (or any other D5 Laing pump, like the Danger Den D5) or the MCP335 with the alphacool (or Petras) top attachment. The D5 is cheaper, and probably the better choice.

For future proofing, running 1 large 2x120mm radiator would be better than 2 smaller 120mm ones, but not by much.

If you go with 4 Yate Loon (1200rpm @ 3.50$ at jab-tech.com) fans on a BIP 2.120 (or 2 fans on each single 1.120) and run them at 7v, you'll be getting about 450w of cooling power, while still remaining almost inaudable. These fans are the ones I use for my contract commercial builds, and are the best deal on the market right now.

so are you saying that using 2 single 120mm rads will not be much better than using 1 to cool say an e6600 up to say 1.5v? How many degrees difference would there be in using 2 vs 1?

Pretty much... About 2-3 degrees maybe.

However, remember... you can run 2 700rpm fans on a double radiator for about the same cooling power as a single radiator with 1 1200rpm fan... Therefore, the double radiator should be about 7db QUIETER than the single radiator.

That's quite the difference...
 
Also, getting a double would leave room for a GPU if you wanted to cool that later on. But if you're not going to, and your case will fit a single without mods, by all means, get the single. It will be enough for a cpu only loop.
 
It should be noted that the barbs on the swiftechs are permanent and 3/8" I believe. There's coolingworks which are more or less newer revisions of the swiftechs. The single 120 coolrad is also fixed I think, but the 2x and 3x are threaded and can take 1/2" just fine. Just a few more dollars more than a swiftie which is a few bucks more than a bip. Performance from what I understand is a bit better

edit: You said that with your tj09, you can't fit a 2x120 in there properly. It might be better to just fabricate something to make it work, since people will say that running multiple radiators kills flow more than a single larger one. Also, this is probably a stretch, but if you're really lucky, the thermalchill pa 120.2 might work for you. That's the only rad that has the two sections spaced out I believe. Whether it's the same spacing as your case, probably not, but you might get lucky.
