are these dead pixels

I'm guessing the black thing is made from MS paint?

What are you pointing out? If there is a horizontal line which I faitly see, then that is not dead pixels, but a defect.

it looks like some mischievous pup took the windows paint airbrush to your monitor while you weren't looking. but i wouldn't call it dead pixels...

oh do you mean that faint horizontal blue line? that doesn't look like dead pixels either. it might be a shitty analog to digital conversion if you're running RGB, or perhaps you aren't running at the monitor's native resolution? make sure your desktop is set to the maximum resolution of the monitor.

probably the monitor is just crummy though. if you got it for $90, that should say something.

BTW nice OC on that Athlon 3000!

I had that problem once, the customer service diagnosed it as a row of stuck pixels. I got a free replacement. :)

EDIT: Disregard this, I didn't know it was a CRT.

If that's the case, you could try rubbing them gently with a q-tip.

That's below the max resolution, so it should be okay. For the sake of argument, try running it at 1920x1440.

wait... this is a CRT?

CRTs don't have "dead pixels"... the thing is probably just a piece of junk.

Yeah, I just looked it up. Definitely a CRT, and you're right. Get a replacement.

Wow, doesn't anyone know what an aperture grill CRT is anymore?

The Sony Multiscan CPD-E540 is a Trinitron CRT. That line is normal for aperture grill monitors. There should be two of them.

damn it, it was the only one they had, so i will just have to get my money back , its so nice to play source completely maxed out

The Sony Multiscan E540 is a 21" CRT monitor, not a LCD.

The 2 horizontals lines you see at 1/3 and 2/3 of the screen is the supports for the aperture grid. This is normal for all Trinitron CRT.

- Dead pixels is the 2006 Buzz Words, everyone use it everywhere. :D

There's no need to take it back. There's nothing wrong with the monitor. That's a nice price for a large aperture grill CRT, and those lines are normal for aperture grill monitors.

Just out of curiosity, why does this happen, and what makes this style of CRT better than others?
