Hi guys, I just finished setting up and tweaking my new system. The specs are

A64 @ 265x9
176mhz ram 2.5-3-3-8 1T
795 HTT speed
9800 Pro @ 412/350
Fast writes and sideband off

I am happy with the performance so far although I haven't extensively pushed it in games. My benchmark scores are as follows.

3dmark05- 2736
3dmark01- 21032
Super PI- 38s

My cpu voltage is at 1.58 and load cpu temps are 47C. AGP voltage is the same. I overclocked my cpu close to the limit (270x9 for mine) and my video card close to the max in ATI Tray tools autodetect. During the tests, I set priority to high and terminated explorer.

So, what do you think of my scores? Are these any good; any tips? BTW, there is no sound during 3Dmark, right?
 
Your scores look great. I do have a couple questions though.

Did you lower the Mem on your GPU? I thought all 9800Pro's had the Mem clocked at 370. Also, what kind of ram are you using? You are doing less than DDR400, which is odd for an A64 machine.

Either way, your scores a great for that set up.
 
Lavalys is showing my stock BBA 9800 memory speed at 338. I am using Dell 3-3-3-8 pc3200. My mobo has trouble with 166 dividers and my memory can't run 220 stable anyway. I am using the 133 divider instead with tightened timings. I am going to try 2-3-2-7 soon.
 
Well, I mean that your memory should work at DDR400, since that's what it is. It's operating at a lower speed than stock.

As for your 9800 Pro, you're right. I was switching them around. You should be able to overclock the card more if you wanted. My max overclock on a similar card was 465/429. You got a better score than I did, so you can likely push it further.
 
I just got the card new from ATI RMA. It artifacts at anything more than that. BTW, I am using 5.6 cats. Are these the best drivers? And, I can't run my memory at 200 becuase my bios doesn't have the correct dividers. (166 is too much and is very glitchy, 150 not supported, 133 is fine but a little underclocked.)
 
OH, you are on a Dell? So is your Memory actuall Dell brand, or Hitachi?

Yeah, be happy with your performance then. You seem pretty locked from improving it anymore from what I can see.
 
No I am not on a Dell, but I swapped my old pc2100 memory with 3200 memory from a dell at work. ;) It was a 533 bus anyway and couldn't use the 3200.

I have worked countless hours on this machine in the past few days. I wouldn't mind squeezing out some better performance. Should I try Cat 4.12's.
 
For last gens card.. maybe. I believe the 5.6 really only benefits the Xx00 series. Uninstall, run driver cleaner and try them out. Chances are you may squeeze out more performance.

Can't hurt to try, especially since you spent so much time on it already.
 
Downloading now. Do you think upgrading to 1gig of ram that can run 1:1 (265) will help me that much?
 
Oh.. you are using one stick of ram? That's likely slowing you down some, for sure.

If you have a friend that has a 1GB set of stuff you can use, it would be great if you could test them out and see. Going from 176 512mb to 2651GB would make a healthy difference though. It may help you bump up your CPU to 2.5Ghz too.
 
Sorry for being unclear. I am using 2x256 Dell 3-3-3-8 pc3200. I was thinking of selling it for ~$40 and getting 2x512 ram that can do 265 with loose timings.
 
Gotcha. I think that 1GB would make a lot of difference if it would get you 265. You may be able to get better timings too, depending on which memory you get.

Plus, a high CPU speed due to the memories help would be great too. If you are able to sell that memory for sure, then it would be a great purchase to get the 1GB. Especially for games like Doom III and HL2 if you play them.
