Are there holes in the 7-series lineup?

I have been speculating about this for awhile, and I thought that it would be nice to share ideas and rumors that people have heard regarding the subject.

As I see it, there is a considerable gap between what the current mid-range and high-end parts offer. The 7600GT is dominating the mid-range at the moment. With prices as low as $140 USD after rebate, the intended competitor (the X1800GTO) is no match for it since they still retail for over $180 USD.

The "next step up" in the current (meaning currently being produced, so barring the 7800's) lineup seems to be the 7900GT. These are going for a range of prices, with the cheapest models hovering around the $250 USD range after rebate. Since the 7900GT seems to be almost twice the power of a 7600GT, it seems that there should be something else inbetween -- such as another 16 or 20 pipeline solution.

I was surprised to see 7300GT's popup on newegg awhile back, as I hadn't heard anything about them. People here tend to talk about the upper-end of the product line more than the budget cards I suppose. The 7300GT's are based off the same G73 core as the 7600GT's, and in a review I read of a 7300GT, it was claimed that the card actually had 4 quads for a total of 16 pipelines. Interesting.

Below is a list of model names that I have heard being exchanged. The 7300GT was originally in this list, and it did come true. I would really like to see another card or two to fill the performance and price gap between the 7600GT and the 7900GT.

I would imagine the 7900GS would probably be a 7900GT(x) with 20 or fewer pipelines available, as they would most likely be made from leftover 7900 cores that didn't have fully working quads.

I am hoping the 7600GTX is the 16-pipeline version of the 7600GT, because it would probably sell for a killer price/performance ratio.

The 7600LE I would imagine would be a gimped 7600GT/GS.

There are already 7300GT's out, and they actually perform rather well (a little above 6600DDR2 editions and close to 6600GT's).

So, is anyone else curious as to what else will come out of the 7-series from Nvidia? I have noticed the large gap between the 7600GT and 7900GT as of late, and I think Nvidia is losing out to the "upper" mid-range market by not offering cards in this range.

Speculate, discuss and post rumors if you have heard any!

supposedly the 7600gt has 1 quad disabled. If they put 256bit memory and enabled the extra quad for 16 pipes that would be a good ~200-220 buck card
