Heres the deal. I am in the market for a new home theater. I know that i need a dvd player and i would prefer my speakers to be wireless. I do not know, however, what all i need to buy. Im assuming that i need to get a dvd player, some sort of receiver, and the wireless 5.1 speakers.

My questions:
-Are there any good wireless 5.1 setups out there?
-What receiver should i get, if i need any at all?

The thing with wireless speakers is that they still need power. Which means you're going to have to deal with cords anyways. Even if they made some wireless ones that were of any quality, the cost of them would FAR outweigh the benefits of dealing with cable management.

there are manufacturers that make battery powered (D-cell etc) wireless speakers. The upside is that you have a clean power source but still you are dealing with probably quite a bit of signal loss & chance for interference with the wireless transmission. I don't have any actual experience but from what i've heard its slim pickings in the wireless dept.

ok....lets ditch the wireless setup then...it sounds to impractical.

What should i get as a wired setup then? thanks for your input guys!

Panasonic makes a great receiver the XR-57.

Ok but is it worth it? The speakers are not that good imo. You are better off getting that receiver which is silly good for the $$ and a surround speaker package of decent quality. I got the XR + these speakers

both used (kinda, the receiver was brand new really and the speakers were a little used demo set)

for $460 shipped!!

Awesome deal for a small PC surround setup. Seriously stomps all over any PC surround package.

oh yeah and creative sucks donkey balls. I went to onboard sound and ran optical out to my receiver which has a good DAC for music (2 channel + sub) and 6 channel analogue for games and surround.

If you want better sound for music and can live without surround then get 2 decent speakers like these

or they also have surround packages.

SVS also has a $750 surround package in white which is SERIOUS if you can afford it. SVS makes the best subs for the $$ period. So BASSheads need apply to them lol.
