Hi guys, I'm looking for an internal (5.25) or external bluray player for pc. Do you have any models to recommend?

Are there any 4k players for pc?

lg and asus both have them, the asus is probably an lg anyway. theyre ~$100-120 and if retail boxed should come with a copy of powerdvd or something for playback. if you get an oem drive, use vlc or buy powerdvd.
edited speeling, added "anyway".

I thank you for the answer.
Sorry if I sometimes write wrong but unfortunately I am not a native speaker of English. I don't know all the words and sometimes I have to use the translator:banghead:
I don't understand which model can read 4k...
Does a blu ray player read 4k? Does it just depend on the software at this point?

I take these two as an example:
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Compute...1&keywords=blu+ray+5.25&qid=1630102258&sr=8-2
https://www.amazon.com/LG-Super-Int...1&keywords=blu+ray+5.25&qid=1630102258&sr=8-1

no you do need to make sure they state they support 4k or uhd or ultra hd like this one: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electroni...ernal+blu-ray+uhd&qid=1630102868&sr=8-17&th=1
BUT, upon further googling it looks like its still a pain in the ass to get working. your system need to be intel kaby lake or newer, use the igpu and the drives firmware can be an issue. might not be worth the trouble....

This stuff is confusing. A lot of the drives that aren't marked as supporting BDXL/4K/UHD now ship with firmware to disable it, but it may be possible to flash to older firmware which works. I'd try to follow this information, and see if that helps you make a decision. That's for archiving discs, I don' t know about actually playing them.

Yes, for the price it is worth buying a player to connect to the TV....
I try to follow your link and thanks for the reply

I agree, its a pita playing disks through a PC, I gave up and bought software to rip them to my hard drive while I still could.
Numerous issues like some films wont play because the player needs a copy protection update that wont be coming.
Then the player software can mess you around trying to fix issues for longer than you planned to watch the film!
Like stupid bugs in the the player that prevent you getting the best from the disk.

Much much better to get a good known brand player that plugs directly to the TV that is still quite new so it will get updates for longer.
Choose that wisely as well by checking to see if very common negative reviews/problems have been resolved.

I had heard a couple of years ago that there was a way to get digital copies of purchased Blu-rays but I never tried.

I'm a bit undecided because a blu ray player for tv (sony) costs € 73 ... and a blu ray player for pc (Asus) € 75 ... in the end there is not much difference.
At this point I have to understand if it's worth copying to PC or not.

In your experience, has it ever happened that a blu ray or a classic 4k blu ray becomes unusable?

They can break when they get old, but other than that should always be able to play the disks that worked before.
If it no longer receives firmware updates there may come a time when a new disk will have limited function or or not work.
Thats the same issue everybody has and is why getting a good known brand is sensible, not a cheap company you never heard of before, you will get updates for longer.

Theres little to decide between PC or standalone unless there is a specific reason you must have the drive on your PC.
Get standalone for a much easier life.
