I've decided to get a 2.4ghz 15.4" MBP and was wondering if the refurbished ones on apple's website are penryn? They have 8600gt's in them, do any MBP's without penryn's come with 8600s?

I know there are rumors about a new refresh around the corner, but I'm not going to be using this for much -- school and some web design. I think penryn will be sufficient for that :)

Also, would I get a student discount on refurbished stuff?

Thanks guys,
New Apple user on the way

It's been only 1-2 months since the Penryn MBPs debuted so I doubt Apple.com is selling Penryn refurbs, yet. Couldn't hurt to call and ask, though.

The Santa Rosa MacBook Pros had 8600GTs.

Look up the part number. Apple refurb part numbers simply replace the leading "M" with a "F". If it was an FA896LL/A(Refurb SR 2.4GHz MBP), then it is the refurb version of the MA896LL/A(New SR 2.4GHz MBP).

a definative no, for now.
you can tell because of the Hard drives offered.

the 2.4 penny comes with a 200gb standard, and the 2.5s come with 250s.
