Now this might seam a bit silly, but I have an Iiyama C480T monitor tv but I can't stand it because of the fan noise. There was some electromagnetic noise when viewing particular types of pages but iiyama promptly swaped out mine for a new one which is better.Otherwise the monitor is excellent.

My question is do all or most tft's have fans that run continuasly? And specifically does anybody now if the Samsung SM193P or the Sony hs94p are silent?

It is particularly annoying to have a silent running laptop and a monitor that you can hear from the other end of the room and beyond. Therefore I'm going to change it.

Thank you for your respomces. ;)

there is a fairly good chance that you are hearing the CCFL make noise.. either that or the CCFL inverter is arcing off somewhere, most likely in the connector to the CCFL. Other than that there is no other component capable of makeing noise in an LCD monitor

my response required no googling. :) I knew there were some displays with fans, but not a whole lot.

Hey, I wasn’t trying to bust anyone’s chops here. I just figured ccb wanted an answer not speculation so I found him one.

Also, not to upset anyone but face it, half or more of the posts here could be answered with a simple web search ;)

I think it is safe then to assume the other models I mentioned do not have noise issues (not acoustic at least!). ccb
