Hey guys I have been looking at compusa and every once in a while they will get some pny verto 6800 gt's in stock. I really want one but I'm not sure about the quality of pny, i have heard some people have had issues with them. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with these cards or the company in general? Thanks for the help

all, I repeat all 6800 GTs come from the same maker.

then companies like PNY and BFG put their different versions of the BIOS's and they ship 'em.

so to answer your question, yes, PNY GTs are good. I've had mine for three weeks now running @ 420/1100 with zero problems.

Yeah I saw that thread which is what got me kind of worried about buying a pny card. Anyone else have experience with them?

But don't pny make most of the card except for the chips? Correct me if I am wrong because I don't know for sure, I just got a little worried after reading that other thread.

;) :p

I owned a PNY 5900U a while back, and it was a great card. Just a regular stock NVidia branded with a PNY sticker.

friend bought one from fry's, he had a 350watt antec PSU, and it sucked too much power and wouldn't run, so he got a 550watt antec, and it caused flickering on the screen. so i put in my 9800pro and the flickering stopped. (NEC bad ass monitor by the way) and we put back in the GT and the flickering started again. so we took it back. we ordered him an x800pro because NOBODY has the GT's by the time he needed it.

For some reason a huge stink is being made about the warranty every time the PNY is mentioned, and people shoot off their mouths against the card because they want to be on this same bandwagon. Warranty, schwarranty - in a year it will be obselete anyway and most [H]ard folks will have a different card anyway. PNY now has a 3 year warranty once you register your card - that's PLENTY of warranty, folks.

The PNY cards are good solid performers all around, and with the 6800 GT in particular it's the same exact card you will get from any other manufacturer - because only one company is making ALL of the GT cards right now and shipping them off to the third party companies like PNY. This will change as companies like Gainward develop their own modified PCB designs, but right now one card is the same as the next.

lol

thats funny cuz my 6800 GT O/Ced to 420/1100 cruises along with a 250W power supply from my Shuttle's (SFF) system all day long.

Is it just me or does the fan on the pny version seem smaller? Like there are lots of fins but they are really small. How does that affect cooling and overclockability? Also to those of you who have one, what is the design on it? I see some have the nvidia mermaid one and some have ones that say "graphics to drench your senses" or something like that. Which ones do you guys have? Thanks

All of the 6800 GT cards I've seen that use the reference cooler design are using the same Delta blower model BF0712H. It's a decent little beast...

Oh ok i guess the fans are the same then. But what do the heatsinks have on them? Which of these is it:

1fecj

or

1fed4

Not that it really matters or anything, I just like the first one a little more

I have a PNY 6800 GT and is awesome. Not a single issue so far. Perfect card for the perfect price :D

I've had PNY cards from early on (couldn't wait for shipping and got them at Cusa). All Ovclked well, held up to my abuse and performed flawlously!
I would recommend them to all impatient [H]'ers the universe over :)

I have not owned one yet, but they are usually the cheapest cards. That is why I have not got one from PNY because I was worried that cheaper means less quality. Well I dunno, maybe they are good or better than they have ever been, so I am not going to rule out buying one. The BFG looks good because it's already overclocked to perform like a Ultra as I understand it, and it's a $100 less and performs just as well. Correct me if I am wrong about that.
