Are my speakers broken?

OK, so about a year and a half ago I got some Creative Megaworks 650 6.1 speakers for a gift, and usually whenever the volume wasn't playing something really loud I got white noise from all the speaker.s However, if I turned something on in my room that used some power like an air conditioner or light then the noise went away. But that's not the main problem... Recently I was watching a movie at low volume and all of a sudden the voices sounded really fuzzy and crappy, so I figured it was the disc. I took it out and restarted and tried iTunes and it sounded ok...for about 5 seconds, then everything sounded like crap. I turned the volume to half from my computer (mac mini) and turned up the volume on the control pod, and that worked for a little while, but it still is fuzzy and sounds like crap. I think I might have blown part of the amp or something..? but i dunno, if anyone has any ideas, let me know!
Thanks in advance.

edit: sometimes the sound "stutters", or skips a little bit every second or 2..., dunno if that helps...

Do you have another computer or audio source you can plug the speakers into and try them with? That will tell you if it's the speakers or your computer.

I tried my ipod, and it there is less white noise, but it stutters more and sounds like crap to the point where u can't even listen to it..

edit: and when i turn the sound of the computer or ipod more than half, there is no noise at all, except for this weird buzzing noise.

well, if the same thing happened on the ipod as on the computer, you know it's something wrong with the speakers.

Your second problem (loosing noise over a certain volume level) doesn't make it any better.

If you still have warrenty on the speakers, I would just send them back.
If not, looks like it's time to think about buying new speakers or headphones.

well it was only a 1 year warranty and i got the speakers for mabye..150? about a year and a half ago...do you know what the problem might be? thanks for the help so far :)

try cleaning the plugs and jacks of the speaker, if that doesnt help maybe some loose solder inside the speakers........
