I bought the M4 128GB about a week ago.

The M4 256GB came in the mail today.

I just want to check this out with you guys, because the 4K seems low..

Just ran the benchmarks to compare. I'm running two 64GB M4's in RAID0 (Intel on board raid controller). We can't really compare the results directly

Make sure your running the latest M4 firmware as well, the 128GB might have old firmware and the 256GB came with the latest.

Well, it looks the same..

You're running SATA III w/ACHI, right?

I checked and they both are 0009, which as far as I know is the latest.

Btw, don't you regret not having TRIM?
 
Wow, these are some serious numbers. It makes my Intel 320 look like a turtle in comparison.
 
yes they are connected to SATA III but in RAID0.

Never tried the M4 without RAID0 so I can't really say i regret not having TRIM.

My M4 256GB (with 0309) gets 18.77 and 57.28 on AS-SSD 4K, so about the same as you.
 
Yeah, I assumed that 4K wouldn't rise with a firmware update.

Strange, how could a 5-hour old drive not have the latest firmware?

I guess it is normal and I should be okay with it.

The firmware update is necessary before 5000 hours or so.

There is a thread about the problem.

The update is painless.

Yes, I think 128gb is slightly better with reads than 256gb. Why? I have no idea :)

Edit: OP, you should install the newest Intel RST drivers

Hey, you also have the 128GB and 256GB M4's. We have the same SSDs :p

I really appreciate everyone's input.

I suppose I just expected 4K to be higher, but now that I realize that it isn't, it's still pretty high so I'm happy.

But I guess the 256GB never quite gets to the 350MB/s write that Crucial advertises, huh?

Wow, odd on that one. It says 415MB/s Read/260MB/s Write.

That's wrong for two reasons - I get 500MB/s Read, and I am sure it was 350MB/s before because my C300 was 250MB/s Write and the M4's as I remember are faster.

I get lost with Intel drivers. Which version do you have? That way, I can google it and get the right one.
 
Crucial actually rates the m4 at 500MB/s Read, 260MB/s Write on a Sata6 connection while the 256gb C300 is rated at 355MB/s Read and 215MB/s Write on Sata6.
