Just curious about the upcoming tablets.

Lets say that you bought an android based device. Would it be possible to replace it with another OS, like a Windows CE or Chrome OS? Or are they hardware specific?

I wish..

They're hardware specific.

To elaborate on the previous post a little more, you can't get a vanilla version of mobile operating systems like you can for desktop computers. Each rom is custom "cooked" for the specific device in question. You can't install a generic copy and go find/install drivers like you could with a computer. You're locked to the OS it came with. You can, however, often find custom roms for your particular device that change the look/feel/functionality of the OS.

Look at it like this: The reason people with the Droid, Eris, Hero, etc were getting angry about not getting the Android 2.1 update was because it has to be custom written for the hardware.

There are a handful of WMo 6.5 phones that can be booted into Android from an SD card also...
