If yuo use teh Intarnets Explorer, yur dumberer than thos fancy Chrome and Foxfire peeple. :D Blame Jeffrey S. for the link!

AptiQuant offered free online IQ tests to over a 100,000 people and then plotted the average IQ scores based on the browser on which the test was taken. And the results are really not that surprising. With just a look at the graphs in the report, it comes out pretty clear that Internet Explorer users scored lower than average on the IQ tests. Chrome, Firefox and Safari users had just a teeny bit higher than average IQ scores. And users of Camino, Opera and IE with Chrome Frame had exceptionally higher IQ levels.

People with pocket protectors are also usually very smart. But I'm not getting one. :)

They really needed an IQ test to figure that out? Just ask an Internet Explorer user what web browser they use... Most will answer "Windows".

I use Firefox to hide my Porn habit from prying eyes ;)

Otherwise IE is my goto lol.

Just wait until someone uses Recuva...

OT, of course they are. Most people get internet set up, and then just jump on the icon that says "Internet Explorer" and assume that's the only one in the world.

I would guess that most people don't care what browser they use as long as it can display boobs.

Seriously, I wish I could get paid to do studies like this.

Opera users are exceptionally intelligent?

No no no...something about this just doesn't seem right at all.

From the end of the actual Aptiquant PDF (bold added):
It is common knowledge, that Internet Explorer Versions to 6.0 to 8.0 are highly incompatible with modern web standards. In order to make websites work properly on these browsers, web developers have to spend a lot of unnecessary effort. This results in an extra financial strain on web projects, and has over the last decade cost millions of man-hours to IT companies. Now that we have a statistical pattern on the continuous usage of incompatible browsers, better steps can be taken to eradicate this nuisance.

Since they concluded that stupid people tend to use IE 6-8 and constitute a nuisance, I think it's clear that we must keep stupid people off of the web! Perhaps instead of age-gating websites, we should IQ-gate them instead :)

Firefox has started sucking lately...i've switched back to mies 4 months ago and haven't looked back

We should do that in general society, as well. But no one would go for it.

This means what exactly? The majority of our users use IE because it's easier to administer under a limited user account... despite the obvious security holes.

I stop reading after "... issued an IQ test ONLINE..."

If we go by online IQ tests mine is 210, and its not 210....

Does IE work well? Yes

Why use anything else? Because geeks like extra crap.

The only reason I use Chrome over IE9 is because of bookmark sync. Other then that, they both work fine.

In the Dark Knight Rises, Batman will add the TI-83 calculator to his arsenal.

He'll whip that thing out and chuck it at the bad guy, it has serrated blades on both ends of it.

Damn, who knew mathematics could be so deadly?

I Use FF and never have any of the problems everybody complains about also I love my addblock, And yes I know chrome has it also but it doesn't seem to work as well.

Are you using internet explorer? :p You posted this in the wrong thread.

Consider that the measured scores come from a subset of people who are dumb enough and have nothing better to do than waste their time on an Internet IQ test.

I use IE as my primary browser because I have to support it at work. Also I think Firefox is as bloated as a dead guy roasted in the sun for a week. Chrome is alright though

The stupid people tend to fall to the default. It's not just with computers and browsers.

I consider myself somewhat smart, and I use IE9. Firefox got WAY too big, and keep adding and adding without trimming. Keeps crashing, takes up too much memory (comparatively speaking). Only good part is the extensions. Chrome is good, Opera is great. But, IE9 is what I'm liking these days. I'll switch my alliances in a few months, I'm sure, but for now, it's my #1!

Interesting.

Because I have Firefox set to not use the drive for its browser cache (because my OS is on an SSD), but to use the memory (set at 512MB) for the cache and it is a very fast browser, both in startup and use.

IE9, even the 64-bit version, not so much.

aww im stupidly dumb then, I use IE for most of my browsing, and yet, never did I ever have any malware or security problems :(

This and perhaps firefox users are blind and deaf with there bloated tweak needing to be useful browser...

wha? You mean the blue 'e' icon thingy (internet explorer right?) is not the interwebs?

Pretty worthless study.

Since IE is the default browser, anyone who doesn't know enough to install a differnt browser will be using IE. That doesn't tell you anything about the people who actuall chose to use IE over something else.

If you want to be forced to perform 58 clicks every time you want to save a file then IE is the browser for you. As bad as IE has always been it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse in terms of intuition.

Wow that picture is winning! I used IE and got 400 free microsoft points from bing and felt pretty smart.

I use Firefox. I would use Chrome but I could not stand their download manager and could not figure out how to change it.

IQ is an obsolete concept that people take far, far too seriously. You cannot reduce intelligence to a simple number. It is essentially a "synthetic benchmark" of the brain, and we all know how those are treated around here even though computer hardware is a far simpler and more concrete thing to test than the human mind.

(P.S. I scored well above average as a child, so no, this isn't jealousy talking. :p)

My parents, for example are college educated but they have little in the way of computer skills. They use IE because they don't know any better.

What I find amusing is that if you choose to use IE, knowing there are better browsers available, yet you still choose to use IE...

...well

Uneducated is not the same as unintelligent. Also they might be very educated in other fields. There's a lot more to this world than petty browser wars.

Better question is, what kind of people take free online IQ tests? I think that speaks volumes of the people being surveyed right there..

IQ is pretty loosely subjective as has been mentioned.

The IE results do not surprise me as most users who aren't terribly savvy tend to just use the default. That obviously skews the results in favor of the lower scores given the larger numbers of "average users". As for malware, just because you have gotten lucky, does not make IE not garbage.

However the surprising result to me is Opera. That browser is just plain terrible. Though I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised as just like the low end of the spectrum, the high end tends to gravitate to the other extreme. Which does not necessarily indicate better either. I have met some extremely intelligent people over the years who use some pretty baffling things. I believe the concept is "Over thought and over engineered" to the point of equally useless. I work with a bunch of developers as a project manager and I can honestly say their operating environment tends to be one of the most user "unfriendly" imaginable.
