Are HDD coolers really worth it?

My HDD currently averages 27 degrees C. I bought a heatpipe HDD cooler at a yard sale for 2 bucks. After installing it, my HDD reads 24 degrees C. I know 3 degrees can be significant for CPUs, but is it significant on HHDs? I've seen the same HHD cooler from Zalman sell for $30 and have to wonder if they are worth it.

Depends, for 15k SCSI drives then any kind of cooling you can get is worth it. The Zalman heatpipe coolers actually work pretty well for me and my 15k Fujitsu drive, silent cooling.
