discuss? I have a telephone/cable modem from comcast its an arris something rather i forget the name. I also use a d655 is the modem bottle necking me? Do most new modems pretty much do the same thing excluding the special modems for super speeds like docsis 3.0

All DOCSIS modems of the same version number should have similar features and capabilities. But bugs in hardware and firmware create all sort of nasty problems.

for 2.0 the SB5101 is the best. for 3.0 I'd go with the SB6120

Not from what I've read. The SB5100 (with exception to f/w v1.1.1.1) had fewer issues than the SB5101. Unless of course they finally worked out all the firmware bugs that would cause random lock ups and gradual drops in bandwidth.

5120 has been the most beloved modem of the Docsis 2.0 lineup. With much of it's praise coming from those who work at cable ISPs.

Except the OP is using an MTA with Comcast. . .

OP, what makes you think there is a bottleneck to begin with?

I havent the slightest im a super noob when it comes to networking so thats just my mind wondering...

Best thing for assurance is to go to Speedtest.net and run a test.

Compare those speeds to what you're actually paying for. If its close to what youre paying for, youre good to go.

I have a custom firmware on my 5101. it runs flawlessly!
