Arctic Silver needed for Freezer 7 Pro?

I have this on a C2D 6400.

It came with compound already applied, so rather than scraping it all off, cleaning it and reapplying arctic 5, I just popped it on as is.

Will I notice significant cooling preformance if I pop it back off, clean it up, and use ASilver 5?

Thanks!

[edit]

the factory paste is "Arctic MX-1"

The stock paste is about equal in performance to AS5. It may even be slightly better.

BLASPHAMY!!!!!!! I'm tellin!

No... just kiddin. It USED to be that the stock TIM sucked compared to AS (back then it was just Arctic Silver - btw did you know they skipped AS4?) Anyone remember those gummy pink ones Intel used (or was it AMD or was it both)? TIMs have come a long way. The included pastes have also come a long way from the white radioshack (no offence to RadioShack... well maybe a little) crap they used to include.

Just make sure that if you ever remove that Heatsink, use some AS5 after you've cleaned it up (or more of that Arctic MX-1 if there's any left).

Most stock pads are still crap, it just so happens that Arctic Cooling in particular uses an excellent thermal compound. If it was any other heatsink I would tell you to scrap it and use AS5.

Zalman now includes a thermal grease that you can "brush on", kinda like a bottle of fingernail polish. Not sure the name of it though. I wonder if there are any comparisons of these NEW thermal pastes vs. AS5

The Arctic Freezer thermal compound is actually excellent in keeping your CPU cool. You don't need to scrape it off and apply AS5. I would just keep it as is and allow for a burn in time.

the brush on stuff is called.

STG-1...

If you "modify" the application instructions... It works better than AS5.

Thanks for the comments guys. I did some research of my own, and apparently this stuff does indeed cool on par with AS5.

Good to know! =)

But in that case it's necessary to remove stock thermal paste from processor, no? You shouldn't have both AF paste and stock paste on each other, is that right?

What's the best way to remove stock paste from CPU?

Rubbing alcohol, Q-tips, cotton balls. I like to take a kleenex, fold it until it's small, soak it in alcohol, and use it to wipe down the heatsink. Then I go over it with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol and let it dry. Once it's dry you can apply new TIM.

Careful with the kleenex though. People say to avoid the ones that come with aloe or whatever for obvious reasons. Also, some tend to argue that there may be small pieces that come off when you use them, although neither should be a problem if you're putting alcohol in them. With that said, I've used kleenex many times before and never had any problems. It all depends how much of a nazi you are (don't take offense ;))
