would it help to put some ac5 between the stock heatsink + gpu? or is it better of left how it came from the factory? also im thinking of an "aftermarket" heatsink for the 7800gtx but i don think a second one would fit if i decided to get sli later.. are there any heatsinks that work better than stock thats about the same size?

depends on your current temps. if your card is getting really hot under load but the heatsink isnt all that warm to the touch then yeah AS5 may help. if your stock cooler keeps things under control then AS5 wont help much.

since you mentioned possible SLI i dont think you'd want a Zalman cooler for that baby. although it will work. ;) go with a Silencer to vent the hot air outta your case. kind of a 'must do' for SLI anyways.

Didn’t make much difference to me. Was around 57c idle with the stock compound, with AC5 it was 56/57 with similar ambient temps. Load didn’t make much difference really. Slapped my Zalman on there and idle was 46 and load temps were down 15-20c. This was with an EVGA gtx with a 450mhz default core.

hey guys.. since this would probably help some people out too.. I got a question.. how do u guys apply as5 on the core.... like do u use the one lilttle dot...and hgavethe heatsink do the rest... but a smaller dot since the gpu is smaller than a cpu.. or use that spreading method?

i have a zalman cooler on my GTX, used AS5, and now its idles at 46 degress, and 65 degrees load

and regarding how to used AS5 on the GPU, i followed the instructions on Zalman's site, and it told me to used the "credit card/razor" trick and spread it thinly over the entire chip...

not sure though if that is how it is with the stock cooler

did you do any drilling or did it fit just right? and also did you add some ramsink?

AC is working on a cooler for the 7800 it should be out any time. I would wait a couple of weeks.

to Betauser

lol no drilling required... it the cooler fits just right

and i just used the ramsinks (though tiny) that came with the cooler (they are aluminum btw)

thnx for the info Dub. I cant really wait that long enough for AC.. is it coming out this august?

my 7800gtx load is in the 70's, is that fine? idles around 55.

whats the max temp?

max temp is in the temp display panel in the nv control panel :p 125 I think.. but really.. 70's is normal jsut like any other stock cooling 7800gtx :p
