hi,

i picked up an ACF 64 hsf and noticed when i put it on that the piece that comes in contact with the cpu is actually smaller than the cpu... is this right? after its all mounted etc, i can still see about 1-3 mm of the cpu (depending on which side im looking..).

cpu is a 3800+ am2 x2. i would be grateful if other ACF owners chimed in.

ps. on the box it says that it is compatible with this cpu... just thought i'd post to make sure because it seemed odd. anyways, sorry if this is noobish.

thanks

yeah its fine... my si-92 does the same thing... doesnt cover the whole IHS

yeah its wierd. for some reason the hsf is not centered over the ihs. like some sides are more exposed that others. when i was installing it, the hsf would slide off to one side and i couldn't manage to get it centered... shud this be ok?

Have you ever seen a CPU die? If not, it's literally about 1/4 the size of the entire metal "cap" on the processor. It's dead smack in the middle too. As long the HSF covers about .5" square on the direct centre you'll be ok.

Dont believe the IHS is actually to spread head (Integrated Heat Spreader), as we all know it only HURTS cooling performance, it's there to protect the core.

This is correct..

Yep, that's the way it fits. Don't worry about it. It will do it's job just fine.

Arctic Cooling indeed states in the assembly directions that the HS will "seem small" for the size of the cap on the CPU, but the base covers all the important aspects of the CPU. :D
