Arctic Cooling Freezer 7

Wow. It's totally stable @ 3.64 if I bump the voltage up from 1.33 to 1.36. This fsb is the highest this board will go without the sata controller losing it. Guess I'll just have to find a way around the sata problem (pump up the nb voltage?) or wait till Nforce5 boards hit (rumored capable of 300 fsb).

Anyone know how much voltage you can safely pump into one of these prescott cores?

EDIT: I just updated the bios on my AA8 from 1.7 to 1.8 and it boosted my 3dmark'05 score from 2588 to 2925 which is a 337 point boost! I'm almost cracking 3000 with a $160 cpu, a mobo that cost me $105 after rebate, and a graphics card that only set me back $122!

They need to make this for the 478 prescott, as the Freezer 4 isn't as good as the Freezer 7. Same chip, same heat given off, I wonder if I could mod it to fit my socket. :/

Where did you find that out?
I ordered the Freezer 4 last night (From Directron, $22 before shipping !!!) to compare it to my Zalman 7000AlCu. The only difference I can tell from their specs is that the fan spins at 300rpms faster on the 7 than on the 4. Is the HS unit different?

BTW, I've been happy with my 7000, but I'm trying to quiet my system down more and optimize the airflow. The 7000 blows air in all directions and I'm hoping this unit will direct that hot air out the rear exhaust fans or PSU (undecided how to mount it yet). I also ordered a ATI Silencer 1 for my 9800 Pro. All this with new case fans and a fan controller and I should have a fairly silent system.

UPDATE: After about a month of regular use my load temps on my lga775 2.8 which is oc'ed to 3.5 are down from 55C to 49C using the freezer 7 with the fan at full speed! Not only this, but it's still much much quieter than my zalmans were at full speed!

The best thing about the Freezer 7 is the 4 pin cpu fan connector which dynamically adjusts fan speed based on user selected temps. I've got the temp range set from 35C to 50C so at idle the fan's only spinning at like 5-700rpm, but when I start up a game or am doing video editing or something it automatically kicks it up to like 2500rpm. Being able to set it and forget is much easier than having to fiddle with the zalman's fan mate all the time. Out of all the heatsinks I've ever owned the freezer 7 is easily my favorite. And it cost me less than $30 w/shipping. I just wish they'd make one with 4 heatpipes instead of 2 *grin*.

Being able to adjust the temperature spread to change how quickly the fan ramps up/down in speed rocks. It's even better since I've got an Abit board with OCGuru cause I can adjust my fan speed / in windows!

Today I got my freezer 4 by fed ex. After I installed it, I discovered that the fan was broken. I tried to find a phone number to call newegg, but couldnt. I then figured I had to power up my machine to get the number. When I powered on and went into the BIOS to check the temp, I discovered that my temp was only about 39°C!!!!!! This is without the fan on it! I can't wait to see what kinda temps I get when I get a new fan in the mail and when the as5 completely sets. (yes, I too chickened out and used AS5 instead of the MX-1 :p ) I just wish that this BIOS wasn't all locked up by HP so I could overclock my P4 2.4GHz northwood..... I am definately pleased with this HSF, since it dropped my idle down from like 47 (stock HP heatsink without a fan) to 37. :D

Hello,

I thought maybe I can share my experience with the Arctic Freezer 7 heatsink in order to convince others to buy it as well =). With the STOCK HS/Fan, idle temps were high mid 40s (as high as low 50s); load temps reached increasingly numbers at 65 (I didnt allow it to run past that margin.)

Rather than using the MX-1 thermal paste I used Arctic Alumina as a substitue.
The Arctic Freezer 7 is tested under my current specs. I cleaned off the previous Arctic Alumina remains from the CPU die with isopropyl (The Arctic Alumina I used for the thermal compound made it very easy to clean and reapply). First I let the heatsink 'absorb' some of the AA by rubbing the paste onto the surface with a sandwich bagand wiping the AA off. I applied somewhere between ''very thin to moderately thin" layer onto the back of the CPU using CC.

When mounting, I locked the HS onto the back of the CPU by applying evenly force pressure (ei. press in two locks at the same time and diagonally to ensure a more ideal placement).

The first time I turn it on, the CPU temp on the BIOS reads 44C; MOBO temp 29C. When I got it to Windows, CPU @ idle lowered down to 38-39C. Note that the window case was CLOSE. Not only did the temperature drop , but the noise and dB as well. Now, I can barely hear the fan, as it runs between 1500-2500 RPMs. The very annoying vibrations coming from the stock fan was copmletely gone. Tremendous improvements, considering that AS5 was not even used.

The next day, CPU temp ran 36-38C @ idle, but then settled around 42-44C possibly due to the minority of air solutions. Now, UT2004 is less frightening running at 55-60C @ high settings load.

I'm STILL waiting on mine from Directron.
I ordered it last Thursday night. Now it's been 8 and a half days and it hasn't shipped yet. They were in stock when I ordered. Then I got an e-mail saying they were out of stock, but did I want to wait until yesterday (Friday, 8 days after I ordered). I said yes, but it got in stock last Thursday (1 week after I ordered) but it didn't ship on Friday. Now at the earliest, it will ship on Monday. The EARLIST is 11 days after I ordered it and 4 days after it came back in stock.

First time ordering with Directron...not thrilled.

Newegg doesn't even have the Freezer 4 (Socket 478 mounting hardware).
And if they did, it looks like they'd charge $10 more than I paid. Maybe it would be worth it to actually get it in the first two weeks of ordering it, but if they don't carry it nothing I can do. :(
