Archos Gen9

Well see. I'm in it for the media playback, and at the moment there's no alternative to archos tablets if you actually want media consumption. I'm waiting for kal-el, and if for another hundred dollars, you get the same playback capability plus better build quality, i'm jumping ship. The Gen8 A101 which was meant to be a 4 month stopgap, is now a year and a half stopgap.

Benchmarks vs TF

It's a pretty big leap coming from the Gen8 A101. I may consider it if the local price stays competitive. But the 16Gig Gen8's last year that were selling for $350, are sold here for almost $500.00, so the odds of it being competitively priced against the TF2 (or even the TF) is very very low.

kind of hard to go against the better build quality and competitive pricing of Asus' Transformer. But if its lasted you this long no reason to jump ship just yet or claim so anyways.

the G8's had the best support for codec's out of the box, it was nice when trying to watch already ripped movies. This will probably be a moot fact now that most tablets have had one generation under their belts and are going to implement some fixes to the prior problems (video).

I don't see a compelling reason to get this over existing tablets unless I'm missing something. I wonder if it has powered USB to support camera card readers and similar devices. The revue is OK but just an overview - first impression.

Thank you for posting.

It can run any android app the other tablets can. But the others doesn't have the media playback capabilities of the Archos. Kinda funny that it's the feature that kept being touted since tablets became popular, but none of them actually play back videos very well aside from the Archos branded tablets.

Well on the 3.2 update, any video with 1080p high profile was a stutter fest so I wouldn't expect too much.

The Archos 80 G9 501897 8 GB 8-Inch Tablet has been shipping. Seems like only Tiger Direct/CompUSA via Amazon and Archos have it in stock.

You have to buy extra codecs/plugins to play quality video and sound with Archos tablets. Is this true of G9 and how much do they cost? This model is $270 street price just for the tablet.
